A few tweaks before setting off to meet the others:thumbs

There's been loads of photos and vids taken so no doubt a new thread will be started for them. :thumb2
But here's this morning's view:cool:

Black Pearl had an eventfull day !!
Now awaiting recovery
Note to self; do not go straight off the lift to full on off roading without a proper shake down.

That's IS the shake down... is it still the right way up?

Hope there's not too much damage, obviously photos are required.

Bugger :(

Sorry to hear that with all that effort. What broke?

A nut fell orff my steering. No doubt a little job that didn't get properly finished before doing something else :augie
Anyway, after being told the recovery truck was still 3 hours away I decided to do something more constructive. Had a stroll down the road looking for one errant nut only to find a tractor fixer upper place. :D
Popped upto the door and rattled the knocker. Then asked the chap if he had a spare nut
10 mins later I was sorted. Steering reassembled and drove home.
Black Pearl rides again ;)

So glad you got it sorted, but methinks you need to look carefully at those "Rose Joint set ups" you will remember my comments re Alex, must say you were lucky today re the place the nut finally decided to fall off, and of course your own expertise at bringing it to a safe stop, on the down side you missed a great lane, we all managed even all the difficult bits, at one point Fez was making motions that we might turn round, but after walking the route decided to carry on, great fun had by all, many pics will be posted I am sure, Rick

Cheers Rick. Glad you got the lane done ,it's one I've enjoyed many times :D
As regards the rose joints , I'm going to check it all again but fundamentally I think this was a spanner monkey error :augie
The bolt and nut once tightened properly should be fine, as mine have been for years on my truck(pre lay up) and many others.
Anyway, return drive home was fine.
I'll look at it seriously in the week and see what can be learned from today ;)
Thanks for all your help mate :clap

Yes thoroughly enjoyed the week end sad you could not have been with us on the last lane, Rick

Which nut did you lose Pete?
Been running the modded Draglink and steering idler set up for a couple of years now and had no issues with it.
Only just fitted rose jointed tie rods but no way they are coming off as they have the standard castle nut and split pin on the tapered pins.
I've double nutted the big bolt on the Draglink, plain nut and a nyloc so doubtful if it would come adrift.

The one you've very sensibly put a split pin through :doh

Got back at 11 tonight, what an awesome weekend, there will be some awesome pics and some bloody hilarious vids to follow from everyone :D

Zac, Ian and Molly, hope you all get home soon :thumb2

Got home at 0045hrs. Molly managed to sleep all but 10 mins:lol
Fantastic weekend. Thanks to all efforts involved. The wether was great and the scenery awsome

The Black Pearl is something to be tamed! We heard it howling in the night Saturday :lol and it's a sight to behold. Well done:thumbs
Glad you're safely home Pete and look forward to seeing you both tearing up the lanes soon.
