Water Leak!!!!

Recently bought a Ford Maverick 2.7TD (93 reg),got a water leak and looks like I have traced it to an area just below the water pump(have already checked the water pump-taken off and inspected).There seems to be a blanking plate near the bottom right hand side near the water pump.It looks like this is the area where the leak is,unless it's travelling along from somewhere else.
Any ideas!!!!!

my pump had gone, looked like it was coming from the area you mention. but it was the pump.

new pump all fitted no leak... but do have a good look

Hi Guys
Many thanks to you all, and your ideas what the problem could be, I took all your comments on board, and yep!!! replaced the water pump, no leak, even the engine sounds better now as well.

its suprising the difference a new pump makes as it has the viscous coupling for the fan built in you can usualy hear it cutting in and out properly when you have a new pump and realise how bad the old one was, I like to change both belts and the thermostat at the same time for added peace of mind as its not a lot of extra cost usualy under £20 (depending on your parts suplier).
