VW Golf's

Has anyone had anything to do with VW Golf's around 02 t0 05 plate. Fancy the Diesel but with the right deal a petrol would be fine. Here's one which looks ok but is the mileage a bit high?

i have had a golf same year also a jetta lot older fantastic car i think all vw are cracking cars dont worry bout the miles my wifes uncle has a vw golf 1999 the year believe or not just hit 300000 miles it still pulls like its new body work is great has been looked after:thumb2

I have a 55 plate Skoda Octavia, same fundamentals as MK5 Golf, Audi A3, and the Seat, they are all built from the same parts bin, just differing body shapes.
Choices in diesel are 8V 1.9 or 16V 2.0PD, both are good and can easily achieve ~50MPG. The PD has a bit more power but not enough to be a major decision maker, but oil changes are key with the PD.

I've had 2 diesel Skoda's and both have been reliable and economical and would happily entertain a Golf.
I know nothing of the petrol powered variants though.

my son had a mark 1 golf gti ....... was like being shot from a rocket .... when it was running :augie....... he had nothing but trouble with it ....... but i think thats because it had been thrashed in its previous owners hands :nenau

i think you might regret the petrol version as its just not going to last as long as a diesel or do the mpg

is this the end for the terreno? is so how much do you want?

Jim, VW golf, great car. Seriously very little goes wrong. electrics are superb, engines are bomb proof. Only negative about buying a used Golf, is that pretty much all are high mileage, and expensive when compared to an equivalent. When I was looking to change my Mazda, I had settled on a Golf MK4 Diesel, but the mileages were so high, im talking every car i looked at well over 100k miles and cost over £3k. And although lots of people will chime in about the engines going on for over 200k miles, its the rest of the car i was worried about. Golfs are not without fault, so do your research.

that said, you cant go too far wrong if you pick the right one, BUT, be fully prepared to pay a LOT of money, for what you get.

Hi Larson, long time no hear mate. Hope you and the family are well. No not the end of the Terrano though I just noticed the sills this morning and they don't look too good:doh it's the other car I'm thinking of replacing though at this rate the Terrano will have to go at some point.

Clivvy's right about the miles, most seem to of been to the moon and back. That estate is still looking kind of tempting though, it's pretty much the model I've been wanting.

I would give serious consideration to the Skoda equivalents Jim-The Octavia estate is bang on, excellent motor and from what I have seen many have done a lot less miles.

the only vw i ever had was a 1.1 ltr petrol ..... dont laff .... amazing car ..... did galactic miles for very little cost ........ went from brighouse to blackpool on a needles width of petrol ....... ok not very fast , but more than capable of exceeding the speed limit ( eventually )
