I was goign to do an oil change today and repair the heater blower resistor, so had all my oil all ready to go.
Just before I pulled onto the drive yesterday I heard a loud bang from underneath the car. I had a quick look underneath, just to ensure I hadn't squashed a cyclist or lollipop lady and didn't see anything too worrying.
Went to o the oil change this morning and there's a lot of fresh oil leaking from somewhere in-front of the gearbox bell housing. I cant get it up in the air on my driveway, but managed to wriggle under and take some photos.
This looks like an expensive and worrying problem to my untrained eyes. Does anyone have any idea what's gone wrong?
It still seems to drive and select gears at the moment, but not sure how long for.
Any help appreciated.

On the upside I managed to repair the heater fan resistor, might last me a few months until I an save up enough to buy a good replacement.

So I assume this is gear box oil... :nenau

ie should be sort of clear and smelly, unlike the thick black engine oil.

Yeah, pretty clear stuff.
Although the engine oil's now pretty clear too, but this was taken before me changing that oil.
My phone's knackered so died after taking two photos, can try and get some better ones with my digital camera once the batteries have charged up.

It's not clutch fluid is it?

Cheap fix if it is...
Whats that pipe next to the clutch slave cylinder, it looks a bit iffy.?
Oh it is the clutch pipe...

looks like the rubber boot on the clutch slave has failed to me

Looks to me like it's been a long term weap of clutch fluid. I'm thinking clutch slave cylinder or flexi pipe. Check your clutch fluid level and I'll bet its low.

The noise, hmmm you were reversing onto the drive? Did you have full lock on by any chance? I'm thinking steering stops made the horrible noise and they'll need a blob of grease on each one.

the boot is only a dust cover, but looks like the seal inside has gone, check to see if it is brake/clutch fluid, scrape some off and dunk it in water, if brake fluid it will dissolve, if other oil it will not, if it is brake fluid then simple change of clutch slave cylinder, Rick

Just checked the fluids and all seem okay. I took some more pictures and was looking in from the top of the engine with a torch. Not thrilled at what I saw, but it might have identified the problem.

The oil wasn't particularly smelly, but this is quite possibly vegetable oil. Despite my lack of knowledge on this engine I would imagine this is an injector and it's leaking.

Should I continue filling my pants with the brown smelly stuff, or is there a chance it's an easy fix?
Maybe this is actually why it's been feeling underpowered. The seller told me he'd replaced the injectors, maybe they weren't fitted well, or one's dodgy?
Was going to take a look into the fuel tank today too, just to see if that's filled with smegma. That might need to wait for another day now.

Can't quite describe them but there are some rubber pipes called spill pipes that take excess fuel from each injector. Could it simply be something like that. I don't think there's a major costly repair job, maybe pain in the arse but not too bad.

Probably right. :thumb2

yep as Rustic says leak off pipes piece of cake to do, you local motor factors will sell it by the Mtr, Rick

Thanks chaps, I'll look into that more tomorrow.
Will check the workshop manual to see if there's a diagram of the leak off pipes, where they do etc so I know what I'm looking for.
Will just pop the pants in the washing machine and grab a beer now.

I can't take the credit for this one, I only agreed with Jim.:thumb2

Must be worth the tenner a year lol..

Can anyone point me in the right direction of the clips for the pipes?

My clips have been butchered. Been meaning to do this for weeks now.

errm they do not have clips they are just short bits of rubber pipe that push on, Rick

Not the case with mine. I have the hoses, but the injectors have little nipples thst stop the clips rising. They are tiny clips.

I can only suggest to search ebay for "Spring band fuel clips"
I don't know what size or if the are suitable, but see what you think:thumb2

The classic fake oil leak thanks to the spill pipes leaking & derv running down the back of the engine & over the gear box, got very worried first time I came across it:doh
Alex the clips often break but i've replaced 3 sets of spill pipes now on Terrano's & just put a small cable tie around the pipes on the injectors.
