Come to think of it, the Tracker M/Ts I bought from formula4x4 don't say Kingpin on them anywhere - They're Technic's

I had the kingpin a/t tyres on when I first got the car and went to Wildtracks near Newmarket. It was very wet and slippy but they coped with everything and cleaned themselves in no time at all. I only changed them for the Camac Terras when I was working in a marshland area (here to be precise : 51.866415,0.941606 )
The 4 wheel drive packed up and I got stuck so I decided to change the tyres in case it went again. Drove straight to the nearest partworns place and got the Camacs put on the back, I've since tracked down 5 more and I don't reckon I'll be changing them any time soon.
Might be on the lookout for some road tyres though ........:naughty

why ? ........ i leave that to your imagination

where ? ..... where ever i feel the need to increase traction because of conditions

thats only in snow tho surly so 2 mths a year

as wet roads you dont use it or shouldnt really

not so bad if you have muds on wet roads but road tyres may cause a bit of problem :augie

Well i only ever use 4WD Low off road & have never used 4WD High not even in the snow... More fun & control in 2WD :D

Unless your stuck on a field with you tin tent :augie i dont see where your'd use it :nenau

Why & where  :nenau

the road from my house down to the town two miles away is regularly a sheet of ice, you simply wouldn't get there without being in 4WD.....how can you not have used 4WD once in three snow and sub-zero temperatures???? You're such a little fibber!

And if you didn't then you were only being a fool to yourself - why make life difficult??:nenau

:D:D

On mine, i have quadratrac 2. A fancy name but quite an impressive system that normally drives rear wheels only.

Point is, it has a reputation as being subtlety very efficient and will try to move the car even if there's only one wheel getting traction, more to the point it makes its mind up how its going to do it and works at it ful time.

Over the past few weeks on the "rougher" roads as described above even whilst driving sensibly i have felt it kick in a few times which suggests 4wd is a good scheme under those circumstances :thumb2:thumb2.

ps its a hard life I have to select low range manually

Ask Colin :augie Never used 4WD in the snow in January in Wales 2010 :D

loads more fun!!!

:thumbs :clap

Plus you'll only gain more momentum & won't be able to catch it

I'd only use 4WD or my winch in the snow if i couldn't move in 2WD which hasn't happened yet or when I've driven a car :nenau

So perhap's NOT a LIAR or a FOOL but can actually drive.....

I'm NOT saying I'm the best or worse driver on this forum or the world but I know my capabilitys ;)

Come on ADZ.... you cant start an argument about if someone needs 4WD, or even the option of 4WD without knowing all the facts...

You dont know where Briggie lives, what his roads/hills are like in winter and just cause you want to fit 31inch wheels and remove your bumpers to go driving 'of piste' dont mean you can look down on anyone who dont???

Not picking a fight or ought, but I have a standard Terrano and can assure you mine (with road biased tyres) spends more time 'off road' then yours... and its a "shiney" one too!!!! :lol

Heres a couple of pics as an example...

Now dont get me wrong, I dont know where you live, how well gritted your roads are, or if you have hills in Essex... but do you think you could come to my house and drive round in 2wd in bad weather???? :naughty :naughty

:D :D :thumb2 :thumb2

DON'T LOOK DOWN ON ANYBODY :nono

The roads don't get gritted & like Kent we get it bad to being by the coast.! I would until it or i couldn't & then select 4WD

As David would say :augie :bow Stick to the facts

& like Briggie YOUR BOTH MISSING THE POINT THAT THIS HOLE THREAD IS ABOUT "TYRES" & 1 reason why myself & others with mud tyres have NO problem getting about as you stated your on ROAD tyres.!

I'm not picking fights just sticking up for the "FACTS" about "TYRES" which is what this thread is all about :augie

:thumbs

Tell you what folks, I reckon the need for 4wd depends big time on your tyres , whats the thoughts on that?

Im quite sure id need a set of kuhmo kl71s on that track in 2wd ( playing with the rwd under/oversteer :lol:lol) but with a set of wrangler hps like i have id feel a lot happier with 4wd.

Are my thoughts on the right lines ???????

Does anyone on here do the continental winter /summer set routine ????

If so which treads are best ???

All these questions :doh

But then it is a tyre thread
