Having not claimed for quite a few years & only having to claim for theft, I'm not savvy.
Reading Lazy Ferret's post, seems as though they're a law unto them selves & insurance isn't worth the paper it's written on.
Though I feel with the likes of banks, governments, insurance companies & the like, they will do as they please & don't really have anyone to answer to.

Well guys I called the valuer and rejected their valuation. The bloke on the phone did say that you are insured for the value of your car not for how much extra it will cost you to purchase another. Anyway as the insurance company told me they will not devalue below what we have been offered already then the way I look at it is that we have nothing to lose.

Will let you know how it goes.

Oh yeah the valuers gave me the salvage company's phone number to get the vehicle checked for any personal belongings. So called them up and they were great and have arranged for the car to be checked and even my private plates to be sent to me.

Im probably going to get ostracised after this but I know someone who's flogging a m reg 90 300tdi for a reasonable price too and I quite fancy it for a change. Trouble is it's a horrible red colour but I guess it's acceptable to brush paint something like that isn't it. Mind you at least heater works if I were to stick with a terrano.

Not at all Jim, love the Trols but there is no denying there is something about the Defenders. The tdi's are the best engines too, the only one I'd take over the 300tdi is a 200tdi.

Pleased to hear the salvage yard are being so helpful, good service is what people need in times like this. I see myself with a defender at some point as a project car though. Always had a soft spot for them.

You could however combine both your automotive interests

In my much younger days I had a 650 thunderbird, my girl and I were flat out up the A12 heading Thetford for a scrumpy weekend in her sisters house and this bog standard looking minor just pissed past us and we never saw it again, just one of those memories that stick, Rick

There is a bloke that owns a garage down in Blackwell that builds weird 4x4s.
