I haven't read all the posts regarding this thread.
As said in PM's to Jim I feel a little more is to offer :thumb2
I guess what you have to say to the insurance company is........ Look at how much it's going to cost to replace the truck that's been lost. This could be done by showing them ads & by saying this is what it's going to cost me to replace what we owned.
After all that's what insurance is for isn't it. To replace what has been lost, ie like for like.
After all my hassle when the caravan was written off, this is only theory... I even spoke to the ombudsman for advice, and they said that the person who was not at fault should not end up a penny out of pocket... Then when the insurance company royally shafted me, I tried to actually use their services, but you can only actually be put forward to the ombudsman by the insurance company, and then only after you have completely gone through their own grievance procedure. This is made especially hard, and long winded, and one wrong thing, and you end up back at the start. After being left hanging with out any form of payout for over 2 years, I had to give in, as I needed the money.
We had a fridge full of food, a lot was frozen, and when the van was hit, the fridge was smashed open, and the contents spread all over the van. It took over 5 hours on a hot sunny day to be recovered, so by the time we got home, a lot was then crushed under other stuff that had come out of the cupboards, and then with the motion of the van during recovery, rubbed most of it into the carpets. By the time we got home, and were in a position to actually open the van and have a look at the inside, most of the food was spoiled... We had receipts for a lot of it, as we had only purchased it a day before, and also had pictures where you could see a lot of the stuff was ruined, but they would only offer us 50% of the receipt value, and would not offer us anything for the things we had used from our own freezer that we did not have receipts for, even though we could provide the packaging, and screen shots of the price of the same items in Tescos app... They said that everything, including food depreciates once it is purchased and removed from the shop, so 50% was very fair, since there is not much of a second hand market in food???
Scum of the earth....
