Right a quick one before I go out to let you guys have a ponder, I'll be mobile on Tapatalk but feel I'm more thorough on here if I initially post via the web

Had two BFGoodrich's replaced on the front today, they were illegal  Brought a set of 4 from the scrapyard on Pajero rims for £80!!!!!!! Score, all 4 had 10mm+ of tread on

Had them fitted, balanced and had the car tracked earlier at ATS

6 times it had to go back on the ramp as the steering wheel will now not sit straight at all, I've been refunded my money in full, it was all very friendly the guys were great and very accommodating. I did question the guys capability though as he was only a nipper, same age as me but he did look like he knew what he was doing.

I've been told by them and another guy independent of the situation that it looks like wear in the steering box, does anyone know if this could be the case?

I'm also now wondering if this could be related to why the car pulls to the right under breaking :nenau

Discuss.......

Ciao for now bambinos

Track rods, centre link and the NS idler maybe? Centre rod is a regular fault isn't it.

Where I get mine done they centre the steering wheel first then track it. I don't know a lot about tracking but they have always got mine spot on..

Cheers Gav

as said, track rods, idler and relay rod, ye the relay rod is a regulr thing i had makeitfit make me an uprated one

Hi mate I had the same problem, yesterday I changed the centre rod and both track rods which were from milners. The centre rod has got a ball joint on the right hand side were it goes onto steering box and on the other end there is a fixed joint that goes onto the idle arm. Mine had a lot of play in the fixed joint which was making my offside tyre wear, so did the three parts and took it for tracking on a hunter 4 wheel system and everything is bang on unlike the last three times I've been, I've still got that noise between 60-70 but have been told by the boys who did the tracking that my two front tyres are stepping which has been caused but all the movement I had in the steering, And now it all feels much tighter. Pm sent

Brilliant news!!!! That wasn't sarcasm either lol

Thanks for the PM I'll give you a tinkle tomorrow if you don't mind

I want to get this sorted sharpish though given that I've just had the new tyres fitted :doh the offisde tyre I've just had removed was very unevenly worn to say the least.

I had it done on a hunter today, was very weird as every time we had it back on the ramp after test driving it the tracking was way way out again

Both my tie rods have been replaced a year ago for the MOT so I know they are fine

Tracked mine 3 times personally recently, same thing. Slight play in lower ball joints when loaded and levered as far as I can see.

Ok been out to take a few pics of the steering components for you guys to look at, I usually pride myself on the quality of my pictures but for some reason a couple came out blurry :nenau

I had a fiddle with things and everything felt firm but I wasn't sure what I should be messing with in terms of what could be causing the issues.

Just to confirm, tie rod ends for both side are new as they were replaced for the MOT last year, I also did the upper and lower ball joints on drivers side as I had to remove them to get to the CV boot that had split, I have the same problem on the passengers side so looks like I'll be ordering the same for the passengers side as I have a CV boot the other side that needs to be fitted

Let me know if you spot anything on the pics that looks like it needs attention, as if it does I need to get parts ordered sharpish as I'm off to the lakes next Saturday.

What do you guys think?

I've spoke to JohnB earlier on the phone who seems to have had identical issues to what I'm having which he rectified by replacing the centre steering rod

Any other input before I order a new one?

where's your grease nipple on the drivers side tie rod ?. you can see the hole but no nipple . I can't see the other ends. plus can't see a split pin in the idler arm

Idler Arm is standard and was there when I had the car, the grease nipple is missing which is a little weird :S

Ive replaced my centre steering bar, idler arm, trackrods from milner. After a months use on the trackrods they had to be sent back because they were U/S. The milner idler arm didn't line up on the chassis mounting points which ment I had to enlarge the holes on the idler arm. All of those problems kept throwing my tracking out. Touchwood the centre steering bar has been fine. Ive also learnt ball joints off ebay are next to no use aswell so ive gone for Mogg ones now.

Cheers Gav
