So re reading the posts instead of the right having a bang pushing it back it looks like the left has had a bang in reverse pulling it forward, Rick

The pic in your post 53 shows the NS (left side when in the drivers seat) bottom wishbone, but this is forward not back, the torsion bar is on the left which is the rear, Rick

Ah yes, I see your point. Maybe this is just a red herring re the overall wheel alignment. Still something is not right and needs to be adjusted. Just annoyed I didn't spot this earlier.

The roll bar seems to have had a bang from that side as the ball joint is very skewed. There is a photo on the bucket thing.

The guy definatley had a smile on his face when he was talking about the box adjustment!

I've just gone through the drawings e scribbled down when we're talking. It's definatley the right hand wheel that he is saying is pushed back.

So why is that side wish bone normal, while the left definitely is not? Rick

Got to agree with Rick here when looking at the pictures, there is soemthing wrong with that left wishbone

Yeah, I think we all agree something is not right just a question of what to do?

The arm is not sitting centrally on the bush so the question is can the arm be moved along / resat on the bush?

This is also the side that has had the torsion bars wound up to their full extend. Which normally would give a fairly considerable lift? But that doesn't seem to be happening as the wishbone is snagging the cross member which means it can't go up or down.

To me it looks like I need to reposition the bush so that the arm goes back a few mm. There's a bigger gap between the cross member and the arm at the front which seems to be because there is more bush (ahem) at the front. It feels like if I could turn the bush around, put the longer bit of bush at the back that would be enough to reposition the the arm further back meaning it wouldn't snag the cross member.

Having never seen a bush ( snigger ) I don't know whether they have to be inserted a certain way to maintain the central position or it just doesn't matter.

I've measured the gap between the arm where it fits over the bush and compared to the other side but there is no difference.

I guess I'm getting to the point where I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and pull it apart.

I was just hoping it wouldn't come to that and I could of adjust the arm on the bush in situ.

The first thing to check is if the wish bone has gone forward, then the torsion bar should have some exposed splines at one or both ends, if this is so then it confirms the wish bone has indeed moved forward but I am not sure how, a better pic not so close of the damaged one may help to see it better, Rick

Ok Rick. I need to take sometime out and get the other car ready for its test. Once that is out of the way I'll get back to this.

Update...

I haven't forgotten this it's just that the other car is still on the stands with the gearbox on the floor. What turned out to be a quick looksie to see where a slight weep was coming from has tuned into a saga. New rear crankcase seal, new concentric slave, new steering rack, new lower arms and bushes, etc. I have a philosophy of only working on 1 car at a time and be been waiting on parts. Hopefully all back together this weekend.

Meanwhile, the Terrano has been taking over daily ride duties and has performed quite well. Still got some really weird / loud vibrations coming from somewhere underneath when in low revs ( sounds a bit like a heat baffle / shield rattling but I can't see anything loose when I climb underneath) but the ride is better since increasing the ride height.

I had this on my Maverick, turned out to be my springs

Other possible issues could be fuel tank guard and load sensing valve can sometimes flop around and cause a rattle if it's defective and your era of vehicle has one

More info please Banshee!

So I know where the springs are but not where the load sensing valve is.

I'm back on the case...

Summer is over...winter is coming!

Which means I need to get into my wood and start chopping down trees.

Before that I would like to get to the bottom of getting this pull to the right and get it sorted.

So what are my next steps? I have no idea what I should do. Helllllppppppp!

Have you adjusted the torsion bars yet mate to get the ride height sorted?

Yes Banshee, all done but will probably need to be done again when I remove the arm.

Just need to know if that is the next step and if it is what's the best way to do it.

Chaps, so is arm removal the next step?

If it is can I remove it without splitting the ball joint? Ie undo the nuts on the arm?

Cheers

Holy thread revival Batman!!

Hello All,

Today I got around to stripping the car down.

The lower arm is off and I can see.....nothing.

I've checked gaps and, measurements with the right hand side and can see no difference.

There is no obvious damage or witness marks.

I flipped it over and tried to align with the right hand side to see if there was any difference in the angle of the arm. There does not appear to be.

The bush looks a little worn but if I insert a screwdriver through it there is no play or sloppiness.

refit the the arm only at the bush ( not connected to the shock, ball joints etc,etc ) and pivot it it is still clearly catching. Yet it is sitting evenly spaced between pivot arm. ie the bush sticks out equally either side.

This is not the case with the right hand side. This sits further back at the front ie the bush is not equal. I'll try for some photos to show you.

I'm no a bit stumped. I had expected there to be something obvious.

So what do I do next?

Pics are a must, Rick

Sorry for the delay...

Erm...I had to put it all back together as the ITV ( mot ) was due. Which it passed with 1 advisory on unequal brake pressure.

Anyway, ht I did notice was that there was significant elongation / wear on the hole where the stubby drop links fit. I guess that it had increased the hole size by about the radius of the original hole.

As an aside the drop link was completely shot but still passed the ITV. I have a new set on order.

I don't seem to be able to source a new arm here in Spain! Well OK, Nissan have them but I nearly collapsed when they told me the price.

I'll strip it down again next weekend...
