Not had chance to try and get it started today as after I'd got home from work I collapsed for the afternoon and by the time I got back up and arse in gear it was too late to start cranking a truck over so I'll wait for some fresh light tomorrow :thumb2

On the way home though, I did pop in to see Rob at Japanese 4x4 Spares for a fresh fuel filter and air filter

(No that's not p*ss it's squash :doh )

I decided to instead give the engine bay a good clean out in preparation for tomorrows works :sly

After

Can't wait to hear the big cat purr :naughty

Listen out , I'll be the growly one :sly

Fez will back me upon this when I say it......

That night we were running diagonally straight across a soaking wet moor with Fez in his Poncho by a full moonlight with no clouds was one of the most surreal things I've done in years :lol :lol

Progress

So I went back to basics this morn, what do all Diesels want a good constant supply of..... Air and Fuel of course.

I wanted another poke about underneath to see if I could spot anything I hadn't spotted the last time and all looks well :naughty I had another look at the fuel lines above the rear axle though as I had noticed that these had been CAKED in axle grease presumably to prevent or slow down a leak.

I got about scraping all of the grease out between the lines and off the chassis so I could see what was going on and as I did, started the drip drip drip of Diesel, that must be the cause of why it's not starting? :nenau

Quick way of testing that would be to check the fuel primer on top of the fuel filter housing and low and behold, there was no pressure there at all, and when pumped, the Diesel dripped quicker from the damaged pipe.

I decided to be on the safe side, I'd cut back as far as i could see good metal and then run another temporary line back to the sender unit. I cut a piece of Kunnifer to length and added 2 spare rubber hoses with the right I/D.

Mucky as hell!!! Forgive the lack of pictures, I only grabbed one after I'd done all of the above and cleaned my hands

In went the new air filter and also swapped the fuel filter and jumped inside for the butt clenching moment again.

With a good 15-20 seconds of cranking it puffed into life and died again a few seconds later, another 5-10 seconds of cranking and it started again and stayed running, a few mins later I revved it and it revved around the clock freely and no nasty smoke etc out the back :clap

Nice when it's an easy fix:cool:

Easy indeed :naughty Just glad it wasn't harder or I might have had to broke out more tools and the swear word box!!!

Did a cold start on it this morning and was rough on it by not even letting the glow plugs warm the head and it fired after 2 revolutions :sly

Think my next plan is another clean inside and out as although it looks clean in pics it's riffy still in some places.

Jobs I've found so far;

Replace Cracked Windscreen
Replace Passengers Side Wing
Replace Rear Cracked Lights
Replace Rotten Rear Door
Replace Brake Pads/Discs and Brake Fluid and Bleed System
Replace Snapped Rear Exhaust Section
Replace Send and Return Fuel Lines with Kunnifer
Resolve Air Bag Light Issue

I honestly think with the above done, it will be ready to see if I can get a ticket put on it :naughty

Some more graft this eve :naughty

Was nice and cool into the twilight hours and all the tossbags had gone inside so I was left undisturbed.

Removed the namby pamby jeep steps

Then I set about lubing the exhaust bolts

CRUSTY

IMG-20200622-233042155-HDR-copy-1024x576.jpg

There should be some pipe there!!!!

IMG-20200622-233014133-HDR-copy-1024x576.jpg

I have the full exhaust system in storage from the LWB that I've just broken and reckon I can mod it to fit the SWB :naughty

Chop the tailpipe and all the other bends and mounts are in the right place for that section

IMG-20200622-233457167-HDR-copy-1024x576.jpg

Going to drop the middle section to an exhaust shop to see if they can alter it easily, failing that, I might just have to go straight through :naughty

More tomorrow hopefully :thumb2

Work Continues

Slow progress, life and work getting in the way as always but you have to bounce back. If it wasn't for my pals keeping me going I don't know where I'd be, you know who you are you :camping:

Finished the last post at the rear so that's where I'll begin again........

The tow bar looks like it's had a very very hard life  Off it came and it had to be scrapped, of all the bolts holding it to the truck, only 1 came out without snapping and all were 8.8 grade :doh

IMG-20200625-223947220-HDR-copy-1024x576.jpg

Off you come you dirty bugger!!!!

IMG-20200626-203217681-copy-768x432.jpg

Got me a spare to whip back on, hopefully get it powdercoated before that happens.

IMG-20200712-232540283-copy-1024x576.jpg

The rear door is a state :lol No idea why the rear of the truck is so crusty, luckily, it doesn't seem like the chassis or the rest of the tub had suffered much, just the door and towbar :nenau

IMG-20200626-203719965-copy-768x1365.jpg

New door to go on that needs to be resprayed first.

Strip down on the front has commenced ready for cleanup and Waxoyl, so far so good on the rot hunting front, although from a distance it looks quite rusty, it's really all superficial surface rust and not coming off in chunks like the last LWB I was about to do up. If any terminal rot is found again, I will be breaking it but I have everything crossed and it's all looking good.

The passengers side wing has seen better days

GRAFT

Body Mounts have had the lump hammer and chisel treatment again and stood up to the abuse :thumbs

IMG-20200704-183632185-copy-768x432.jpg

Shock mounts and chassis, as you can see, it's just surface and there are some patches that are still clean to the point you can see the original colour.

This is how the Black Curl stands for now, maybe some more stripping and cleaning this weekend :bow

IMG-20200704-212342874-copy-768x432.jpg

Glad this one is in better shape than the last.
Going to make one tidy motor when it's done:cool::cool:

The body is rough, Im surprised the chassis is not? My dads 2006? commercial 2.7 had rot around the rear spring hangers. Everywhere else is in great condition.

You had me flustered and I was a little worried to actually get up in there in case it was another one I was going to have to offer to the Terrano Gods :(

Thankfully, this little baby is seemingly fresher than expected and passed the lump hammer/ pry bar tests with flying colours, even in the spots that the last one didn't :bow :bow

Some more stripping of parts to help inspect and gain access for the cleanup job which is still looking like the way forward at the moment :naughty

Lovely to see all the crap drop out of it's own accord, I hit it with the pressure washer later in the day after I'd swept up all this crud and even more came off :naughty :naughty
