hi. yes it revs fine!!!! it just has this misfire and smoke!!!! when you drive it you only notice a small misfire and smoke....but when its stood still its terrible:-( and got to say its doing my head in:( i had jeeps before and now im starting to wish i kept them............the reson i bout a nissan is i have a old d21pick up for work and it has never let me done:) i take the d21 out now more than the terrano!!!!!!!!!! thanks for your reply ollie

id look at mini fuel filter also the fuel line.. maybe sucking in air but not enough of a leak to drip or loose fuel..

thanks for you reply..will do what you have surgested.. but i have heard of quite a few terranos with this problem!!!!:(

what colour is the smoke....makes a big difference whether its white or black.....

hi the smoke is like a blueish colour and smells like unburnt fuel!!!!! their is no loss of coolant or the engine is not using any oil.....if i dissconnect the air mass sensor their is no smoke ect.. but the engine dose loss a bit of power.....:-( if you have any ideas please let me know as it is starting to pi.. me off:( ollie

If I remember correctly , some members had a similar problem not so long ago , and it turned out to be the fuel return pipes that connect the injectors. They could be sucking in a little air. Worth checking, as well as the mini filter in the banjo connection.
Matt.

hi. thanks for your idea:) will try that tomorrow and let you know:) if not i will light a bonfire under it.... thanks again ollie.

you can add mine to the bonfire, very similar symptoms, showing up worse with the cold weather.its not always there whilst driving . i find it kicks in(the misfire and the smoke) around 1400 to 1800 revs but i dont get it if i put the throttle pedal to the floor just when accelerating easy. if i am just free revving the engine it will always do it as it builds revs. i was told it was an ecu mapping fault and they are all like it which just makes me lose the will to live. there is no way these things came out of the factory like it! i am pretty sure its related to timing and have not given up yet and just recently promised myself i would get to the bottom of it however its too bloody cold. i have read every thread on here without finding any reasoning to suggest a cure so far. i cant sell it as i wouldnt want somebody else to buy it and spend half their life trawling this forum . i get very dissapointed especially reading other threads and problems that seem not to get resolved.

i reckon it's the no1 injector playing up, when mine went it was a pain in the a***, fitted a new one, and to be honest it a different motor, you can here the change in engine tone, and more power, more mpg, and no smoke at all, check the codes, and see what come up before paying out any cash.:thumb2:naughty

hi. thanks for your post:) i have had all the injectors done new nossels ect.. at my local diesel specialist. thay had a terrano in before with the same problem and could not fix it.. the chap said they had it 2 days and in his word could not find what the f..k was wrong with it:nenau...thanks again for the idea if you can think off anything els worth trying PLEASE LET ME KNOW...:) ollie

i would say it is an air leak. check the actuator to the turbo is connected, and the outlet from turbo to inlet is secure vacuum hoses to all the diaphram valves. also look at the inlet gaskets for any signs of leaking. diaphrams on your actuators, blocked exhaust even.
covers a lot, but that should cure your fault if it is air leaks and the above suggestions of return hoses between injectors, or the unions themselves.

I'd go with Matt's answer personally - I had a tiny hole in a fuel return pipe that connects the injectors and had the same problems with misfiring and blue smoke. Good news is that the injection return pipes are cheap to buy (get them from an Autoparts place). Hope this helps! It's worth a look anyway.

What year is it? sorry just caught up with this thread and it sounds like one of the problems i had.
I had all the fuel pipes done and the fuel pump reconditioned ,injectors and its like new never lets me down:thumbs
Also has any one changed the glow plugs ... they can cause probs
put the old ones back if you have done it:lol:lol
if not pay out for some good ones
