If you have a tow bar with the 12s white plug then you will already have a split charge relay, all you need to do is take the live charging lead to your spare battery. If you are putting it in the boot just put a cigar lighter plug in like I have. Regards bri

does anyone have more indepth info on the engineers reports needed?

Is a trained mechanic enough for stuff like snorkel/lift? And a trained electronics engineer for the split charge?

One plug is always on..... other only comes on when engine is running through the split charge relay picked up from the 12s towing relay.... regards bri

ive two in the boot, both only on with engin, but i can turn them both off with a switch.

Might be just as bad here Daved but I never modded anything I drove so I can't be sure. Typical insurance company tactic though, any way to get out of paying out on a claim.

I like yer modification there Brian, and guess what;'s sticking out the back of my truck. Bugger, £17 down the drain. Still with my skill level and electrical knowledge I'd probably cock the fitting up somewhere if I didn't buy a kit with instructions.
Daved, what century did you buy your kit in ?

Insurance

This thead had me wondering about what is a "modification" so I looked in one of the 4x4 mags (lro) and they have a section on insurers, counting 13 companies, only 3 say "modifications accepted" but you would think that a company advertising in a 4x4 mag would be looking to cover the vehicles represented in the mag, seemingly not... After reading Daved and Rustics posts with their experiences it seems that it is a money making racket BUT are you insured if owt goes wrong, My point is that both zippy and wildbri have done a "mod" by adding a simple cigarette socket in the rear area of their motors and also on the downloads there is an article relating to adding a front removable towbar which would be a "mod" so are we expected to ride around in cars that arent "personalised" it seems so. Look at any landrover on the road and there aint 2 the same they have got to be the most modded motor on the road, I recently broke up a defender and guess that 80% of the sales made were to people who were modifying their motor in some way, soft top to hard top and bull bar and even running gear changed from series to defender happened. I wonder how many informed their insurance company????
Back to the original thread thou is nt it ironic that the imported vehicle the Mistral had 2 batteries fitted as standard, maybe we need expert advice on this issue??? What it seems to me is that as the Mistral its a "grey" area that we seem to be wandering into here??????

Anybody on here work for a insurance company in the claims section???

Dont suppose so as I for one wouldnt put my head on the block by saying YES :lol :lol :lol

erm ..... im not one to panic unneccesarily .... but ..... ive only got one battery

imports have a winter option which the uk tend not to be offered unless asked for due to our weather being not so cold

Pete, Maybe Im wrong and stand corrected as I was under the impression that the mistral had 2 batteries, my point was that its basically the same vehicle yet its got "mods " fitted as standard if you get my drift

i fear we are more like the boy racer brigade than we care to admit in the modding
sense and after accidents like that landrover that went into the linconshire dyke
other year the insurers are wide awake and looking for anyone that could be deemed
a bodger/modder.

as for the modded bit being not the cause of a given claim, they dont care, its just
a way to get out of pying up. seriously. you could be drunk in charge and innocent
party in an accident but could be sure you'd still be crucified for it, eh dave?

makes you think about extra spot lights, oh on that shiny bull bar.

the oversisized tyres on after market rims.

got me wondering if mouonting my cb in dash hard wiring it off back od stereo is
legit now.

perhaps say it was like that when i bought it and you mr insurance company has been
taking premiums happily for x years.

Have you told your insurance company Briggie ?

thats a very good point ... i told them my vehicle was a imported mistral and was unmodified .... perhaps i should tell them that it only has one battery ? ... might get a refund ...... phone time lol

i wish i hadnt rung them now :doh .. it seems i have incured a " administration charge " even though there is no extra premium or refund for the single battery , i had to tell them about my bull bar and spot lights , and though there is no extra premium for those ( i had to argue it was standard on the imports ), they had to " adjust my policy " to add them :doh

this is my concern about CBs & radios + Adding a antennas. Also if you don't do all the mods at the same time and don't drive anywhere there will be alot of admin charges.
Or just risk driving on the road with it not declared for a week or two.

they are a pain in the backside try a different company that allow mods, also maybe yours has been modded
have you told them about the cb radio and areial you have pete lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

well my cb is now fixed in dash, but going to stick with a magmount twig as isnt a
permanent mod to car creating a mount. the mag can sit in middle of roof as better
ground plane. and being temp is vandal proof.

shame thouogh as still likely to use less if have to set it up than being there all time
ready, that said, with so many shite head users on cb normally, rigs only real use
is on a motorway or green lane trip with buddies.
