Anyone find their speedo is under reading by over 10%? Doing 69 mph when mine reads 80 mph, with brand new tyres!! Apparently according to Main Dealer, this is quite common on Terranos?? Still, on the positive side the 40k recorded miles should only really be 35k!!!!::lol

yep. mine is the same..

just need bigger wheels to put right

Yes, my speedo over-reads by about 7-8mph also.

My Xtrail speedo is almost as optimistic also!

Sorry folks, meant speedo was over reading, not under reading!!:(

Phew.....was just about to ask you about that, seemed a massive margin and a perfect points collector :D

For the record youre allowed it to over read by 10% ie say 77 when you're doing 70 but under read by 0%. Common misconception is that up to 10% each way is allowed.......nope :(

All car speedos will over read , they are designed that way . It stops the manufacturers getting sued for speedings fine claims if they under read even slightly.

My Mav shows 70 when the sat nav reads 65.

it also makes for better pub conversations when you can mange an alleged 120mph out of a 1.2 corsa.

Vauxhall and Ford are infamous for the accuracy of their speedos............not (in my experience ;) in case the lawyers are looking in)

I think speed cameras are set at the speed limit plus 10% plus 2 mph to allow for speedo variance.

Which means on the motorway 70 + 10% + 2 mph is 79 mph which is about 84 on my speedo ;O)

Brian

Some have abandoned the +2. Used to be in acpo guidance but it was only guidance, not statutory.

The limit is 10%

Beware, thats needles width could be £60 + 3 points..........or more .

Mine too reads higher speed than the sat nav says but it's pretty much the same in the wifes Scenic too. I have to travel through the dreaded average speed cam's regularly with a limit of 50. I'm often found doing around 48 ish just to be on the safe side. I find it amazing just how many people push their luck through these camera's. I would rather go on the side of caution as 3 points is enough for me and I don't want no more. As far as I'm concerned it reads under which is fine by me, I'd rather trust the speedo than my sat nav.

im sure my speedo reads lower than it should , it seems im going faster than the speedo says , but then i have been driving our lasses disco before mine was mended :lol:lol

Poxy average speed stealth tax cameras:eek: Facists
How can it be that for a few bloody roadworks, that a dozen ave speed tax collectors can be built and costed into the digging? You never even see anybody doing anything either:eek:
AND how come you can do 60 mph on a little lane but only 50 on 3 lanes of motorway? Bloody health n safety crap and Gorden Brown's nanny bloody state is over in 3 weeks:lol

I didn't mean I drove at that speed just saying what the speedo reads , 35 years of driving and still have a clean licence.

Anyway my Mud tyres are only rated to 99 mph so not designed for racing.

My caravan tyres however are rated to 131 !!!!!!! ;O)

If you have a chat with the blokes who work on the road on the "live" road works they'll tell you some horror stories, the enforced 50mph is absolutely 100% spot on, possibly even over generous at times.

But when the specs cameras are still working on a 3 lane stretch over bank holiday where no ones working, I'd agree Pete, I do wonder what its all about :nenau

Agreed wasn't suggesting the guys working get grief . Just that when I drive M4 now n then it's usualy weekends and never seen any work going on ever:doh
Do you have any idea how much those things cost to put in and how much gets raised in fines? Does the fine money get sent to the digging guys if anything goes wrong? or does it go to putting more cameras up:confused:

mine definately reads lower than it should ... ive checked on a sat nav ....when the sat nav is showing 30 mph .... my speedo is showing about 25mph...... but at higher speeds , ie over 50 , there is virtually no difference , strange innit ?
