Just noticed when away on holiday and had the sat nav in the T2 that my speedo is around 7 mph lower than what the speedo says. So 70 mph reads about 64 mph on the sat nav. Lower speeds it is less accurate, higher speeds is a little better. How is everyone elses readings?

yes normal for a T2 fit 31s and it comes out about right, Rick

Mine is spot on according to my Garmin Nuvi, 1995 2.7Td, with mechanical flexible shaft drive from gearbox to speedometer.:nenau

It is best to know for any vehicle.
When my kids learnt to drive in a Fiesta, that over read by +10%, so 80 was really around 70, but I never told them, and they never got a speeding ticket:thumb2....:augie:augie

Ah, OK. As you know my T2 (2001) has no speedo cable.

31s... tell me more. Just a tyre upgrade or is it more involved?

My Mav has 31's fitted and is about 1 mph out according to my speedo so Rick must be right :thumb2

235-70-16 on mine and speedo is out by about 6mph at 70mph........so I go by the speedo and stay well within limits.....:thumb2

Strange as I have 32"s and the speedo is sweet, occasionally 1mph out :thumb2

EDIT: according to tomtom

The speedo's always over read with standard tyres on so it's normal & you have nothing to worry about:thumbs

This vehicle is the worst I’ve ever come across for, (std fit) designed-in, instrument errors.
Mine ranges from 20%+ @ 30mph reducing to 10% @ 60mph or more. This is actually illegal as +10% is the max. error allowed through-out by law. I rely on my sat. nav. most of the time.
Don't know how they get away with it. Cable drives are much more accurate.

I suspect the odometer has a similar error, the same journey is 'longer' at lower speeds LOL (it doesn't just seem so!). Not to mention the waste-of-space temperature gauge that reads 'normal' from about 50deg to 110......I said don’t mention the temperature gauge that reads...................................doh.

I've often wondered if they can be re-calibrated to get nearer to reality.

These motors are so bullet proof I don't think its a real issue. :lol

mine is spot on and on standard 16" wheels and tyres. ex police with calibrated rs speedo :)

The thing is, I'm used to being able to rely on instrument readings as meaning something in reality LOL. I find inaccurate ones annoying, to say the least.

Speedometer Accuracy

I suspect most manufacturers have optimistic speedometers to ensure they cannot be held culpable for people who exceed the speed limit. Mercs and Smart cars over read at around the 10 % mark at lower speeds.

That's cheating:lol:lol:lol on the down side you can't claim the speedo was out at all:doh
