Just got a 2003 Mav - first one and a bit unsure of it. 60K on the clock.

Initially I had ABS and brake light on, knocking from the front nearside, a shudder at 3000 rpm and no MOT. Garage replaced battery and all the lights are off. Link rod cut off and replaced. MOT passed but shudder still there at 3K. Have and OBD2 reader but nothing coming up.

The Mav should be in perfect health but could do with a few pointers where to look next.

Remember your maverick is not based on the nissan stuff.

It's totally different. Think after 1998/99 its different.

as Fez says, different beast to the Maverick/terrano hybrid we all drive!!

However, describe the shudder, is it constant, does it build up form idle to 3k getting worse? does it stop if you brake, does it get worse if you steer in either direction?

are your wheels properly aligned and tyres balanced?

would it help if you posted exactly which Maverick you have? Is it the Mazda Tribute based one? petrol or diesel, manual or auto etc. More details always help :thumb2

Thanks for the feedback. Its the 2.0 XLT. The shudder gets progressively worse from 50mph to 60 mph then declines after that. Seems odd.

Its been standing for over 12 months hence the battery but it looks in good nick.

i suspect the issue is not about the 3000rpm bit , but more about the speed ..... ie 50/60 mph .... if this is the case , id be looking at tracking ....have you been bumping kerbs etc ?...... possibly wheel balancing too , or even wheel bearings , but certainly take a peek at the tracking , in my humble opinion

Also check for play in your UJ joints on the prop shaft, if worn, that will give you vibes

yeah it does sound like a tracking/balancing issue, and as Firebobby suggest some worn part. If its been stood, maybe its a caliper sticking a bit perhaps (not likely, but just a thought)

andy4x4 3000 rpm judder

hi i had similar problem at low revs, it was my caliper sticking after a run feel the front hubs to see if one is hotter than the other the sticking one felt boiling hot. make sure the sliders on the calipers are free, plenty of copperslip grease.
my t2 was standing for 3 months before i bought it, so ive been ironing out a few problems myself. check the wheel bearing for play first when you jack it up hold the tyre in the 6 oclock position and rock up and down checking for free play, play can be adjusted to a certain extent . check downloads section , i had my tracking checked after fitting a new link rod and drop links so i new it were`nt that. try swapping wheels from back to front, i was told by my local garage should swap them every 2 to 3 k to even wear all round, but i hav`nt changed mine yet.
i hope some of this can be of help all the best Andy.:thumb2

This is all new to me so apologies.

Firstly it seems it is a Maverick/Tribute so it looks like I'm in the wrong forum. Secondly had the back wheels balanced today as there was no shudder coming through the steering. The balancing made no difference as it still shudders in that 3K level but quieter above and below.

Will need to get underneath now but I'm surprised that the MOT did not pick up and splits / leaks.

DON'T be surprised at what some MOT testers let through, my car was less than 100 miles since it's MOT and the exhaust was in half, rear drop link was hanging on,rear UJ on the prop had about 1" of play and was giving vibration, the front CV boot was split....that garage had a visit from VOSA in the end...shite hawks:(
