I got the manuals for the Y60 and a seperate one for the RD28 engine, got them off the net cannot think where but I probably just googled it, Rick

I've managed to find the Y16 GU4 1997 manual that corresponds to my truck but need the engine specific one.

I've had a look online but all the links online I find are riddled with viruses :doh

Uncle Elty being the top bloke that he is has let me use his engine stand and engine hoist to get things rocking and and rolling with the Patrol project :naughty

I did a road trip over to him yesterday evening and pulled my trailer back that he was storing for me with said items strapped down tight.

Had a little play this afternoon while I had a bit of free time

Up it goes

Out with the old oil and a new Mann filter to go back on when I've worked out how much oil and what grade I need.

In terms of engine oil for these beasts, what does everyone recommend?

Thanks kindly to our legend Solarman, I've been able to access the chart provided in the Engine service manual and based on the temperature ranges we get here I can see 3 compatible types of oil.

10w 30
10w 40
or
10w 50

As with the Terrano, do these engines favour mineral or will semi synthetic do?

You're welcome mate:thumb2
Handy bit of kit to have.

Not saying its right or not, but I would start with the 10w40, you cant really go too wrong with that and semi synthetic I'm sure would be fine.

Seems the most stable of oil viscosity for all round use at our temperatures here in the UK.

That's it buddy.

Just curious, with the 2 engines, do you have a spare 2.8 engine oil sump in good condition that you would sell?

Yeah of you better the £150 I've already been offered for it [emoji38]

I presume they are like rocking horse?

A little bit yeah. I'd better find out how much a new one is.

I'm outside and making progress on the patrol.

I've literally been inside the engine bay stood side on to the engine and disconnecting wires and ancillaries on the scrap engine so I can pull it out and use bits off it to make 1 good one

I'll post some pics in a bit :splif

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this.
Remember to give me a shout when you need a hand:thumb2

Engine is now out :sly

looking good mate:thumb2:thumb2
Once you get stuck in an engine swap is not as bad a job as you think.
Just have to take your time, mark things up and be methodical.

Right, I'm going to be flushing the block out tonight. How should I achieve this best bearing in mind that the engine is currently on the hoist in the garage.

The radiator is out and can easily be flushed and will be done with a hosepipe which is what I was going to use for the engine too once I'd removed the thermostat, is this the right thing to be using?

As for the thermostat, I will now have a choice of 2, both will get the pan test and if they are the original and working should open at 82 degrees.
