Reverse light isnt part of mot but the switch is in the gearbox check the mulitplugs on the side if the box spray with wd40

Can you test that there is a live coming through the wiring to the bulb holder? is it simply an earth problem to the light? if neither of these only thing I can think of is switch.

Reversing light fault

Can anybody help me please.

Just been trying to fit two new reversing lights on my T2 year 03. Tried to wire them to come on with my exiting reversing light. Took the light cluster out, check the bulb was working so found the live. Then put the bulb back in and it wont work. Checked with meter and there is 12v at the socket and tried several bulbs and still no joy??

Hi, I take it you have cut into the existing loom to pick up the live and negative. Could you try disconnecting them to see if the original light will work?
Do the new lights you have wired in work ok?
Could it be that the loom is limitied in how many watts can go through it and this is causing it not to work?????

I'm not electically minded... just a couple of thoughts mate :nenau

Good luck :thumb2

HI, no i havent cut into the loom yet, and the original bulb wont work now at all, and tried several other bulbs, but they work if i go direct to the battery. I have only tried the new lights just going direct to the battery.
And no they arent LED, they are halagen bulbs

I reckon the bulb holder will be a little sprained or something simple like that. Can you check across the terminals in the bulb holder to see if you have power to them. Might also be corroded terminals on the inside of the holder.

When it comes to cutting into the wire to pickup a feed for new lights make sure all connections are inside the car so they are well protected from the weather otherwise you'll have problems later.
What sort of lights are you going to fit? you may need to fit a relay and fused live from the battery or if you have a 12S socket on a towbar even better.
