hey guys, can you possibly give me a bit of advice. We have a decked patio at the back of the house, with a very large Rabbit run next to it. Found out at the weekend that we actually have a Rat, or Rats. seems they have come in from next door under the decking, then found/dug a hole into the rabbit run and are burrowing into the run area, and stealing the rabbits food.

of course, i need to get rid of the rat, but poison isnt really an option as we dont want any rats to spread it to the rabbit. I cant afford the £12-£20 humane traps, and didnt really want to resort to the good old fasioned traps.

so, a tricky situation, are there any other home made methods i can use to catch the rat or rats? Im assuming there is some baby rats too. Ideally i want to catch them all and release a good distance away, then repair the holes into the run.

if there arent any other methods, then ill buy killing traps and dig out the entire run this weekend and repair :(

KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL

Will the council help? Most have a pest control dept.

If the rats are living somewhere else then tell them to deal with it to.

By the way did I say KILL is the only option.

Dont release somewhere else.

If you've seen one there will be more. The one will be female prob with a litter. Sorry to say but poison is the surest way in bait traps so only vermin can take it. It takes time but it works. Hope this helps. David

thanks guys, I understand now that kill is the only option, fine by me!

ill try the council actually, never thought of that, but im going to buy some cheap snap traps as well and put them under the decking.

my main concern is Bob the Rabbit, she has to be safe so I might move her into a spare run for a few days.

****actually, council charge £85 for three visits. ill do it myself fgs.

Brilliant fun "rats" :D get yourself a rat trap and suitable KILLer bait :naughty
Bunny wunny wont get in it:thumbs
Then get yourself a rocking chair and an air gun and pistol.
Sit back of an evenin' with a few cans of Bud and guns cocked, wait, drink, wait, drink, wait , drink, then GO SHOOTING :lol
Enjoy

Rats do not like anything new and will not touch any bait for several days, traps or poison. I've shot and trapped but the best option I've found is poison. It takes a few weeks. Always use baiting stations so only rats and mice can enter and leave and there is no chance of it being spread.
Always remember...The second mouse gets the cheese but they all get the bait. David

trouble with the poisin is the buggers got off and die some place else...

We sometimes get overrun with rodents in France - I once arrived after a 14-hour drive overnight to find a nest of TEN rats in the fricking bed. I literally tore a metal curtain pole off the wall and started whacking the little bastards.

Managed to kill two of them but shut the door and made a brew before carrying on.....within 24 hours the little buggers had chewed a hole at the bottom of the door almost big enough to get through.

So for the next week I whacked, poisoned and trapped the other eight with extreme prejudice!!

The whole bed had to be burned and there are still bloodstains on the wall.:(

poison, poison, poison! Norexia Gold is the best i have used, and keep putting it down even when you don't see any rats that, way you never will!

Rats tend to nibble a bit, then move on and nibble a bit more so you need to put a few bait stations down to be sure they ingest enough to die.

these traps are very good:

bait with peanut butter!

cheers guys,

im going "in" when i get home, and im gonan kill the little bastards. Heidi my other half observed the rat jump at Bobs face, no harm done and bob attacked back. Bobs ok, no scratches or bites luckily, but im going to have to take her out of there now for a while untill i get a handle on the rat situation.

sorry, i know im a bit soft, but i love my Rabbit, and shes got a mad history, this is why im happy to whack the little rats on the head with my spade grrrr

Welcome back stranger! :thumbs

Worst thing I ever used, but then I wasn't there to watch, was Mouse Glue.:lol

Seriously....you just lay down a circle of it with something in the middle that isn't cheese (contrary to popular belief it isnt a mouses favourite food!) and the mice stick to it permanently.....I went back after a few weeks absence to find Mummy Mouse, Daddy Mouse and several Baby Mice all stuck fast and starved to death.

I chucked it away after that, even I'm not that mean! :augie

You need a good cat
I can recommend Maine Coons Mine have eaten into the local population!
