So a couple of lads have said to me that when i boot it, it gives out a puff of blue smoke.

it can be seen when reved hard on the spot, its just a puff, but definitely bluish

It cant be seen in the rear view mirror whilst driving so its quite a small amount

140k on it

10/40 semi synthetic oil as listed at uni part

what do you think? Turbo ? or perhaps Rings ??

I would try mineral oil before doing anything else, my issues with synthetic oils have been the subject of a couple of threads. Does it seem to use much oil?

So 10/40 mineral ?

Some cheap stuff will do me, comma or the like

I'll try 15w40 mineral, nice and thick.

But I've only recently put 10w40 semi synth in it about 2000 miles ago

I have 15-40 mineral oil, listed in the handbook as suitable for all conditions from -20 to 40+ degrees C. Never uses a drop. I think that synthetic oils just aren't suited to these engines.
Strange but true; in the trade synthetic oils are now much cheaper than quality mineral oils.

Agreed, A single grade mineral is nearly twice the price of multigrade semi synthetic and suits older engines as tolerances are wider. David.

One of my daughters and her partner work for a chain of dealerships that sell and service all sorts of brands including; Volvo, Honda, Citroen, Mazda, Ford Chevrolet, etc. etc. In the workshop many of the most expensive cars require a specific 'MINERAL' oil and the cheaper run-of-the-mill models are running on fully synthetic at half the price!

how did you get one with this? any improvements?

Not got round to changing the oil yet.

Dipped it, it's done 3000 miles since change, and it's half way between marks, so it's hardly using any oil

Will change soon

If it's used that much oil, ie full to half way, then you are burning oil, I would guess at least twice my consumption. I used to use mineral, now I use semi synthetic.

There's usually 0.75 - 1.0 ltr typically between high and low marks on a dipstick.

I drive my truck hard, like a hot hatch, and to burn 0.5 ltr or less in a 140k truck when driven this hard in 3000 miles is pretty standard IMO, especially if these engines tend to burn oil if not ran on thicker 15w40 mineral as some are suggesting.

I dont think so,or I'm lucky :augie I bet I drive as hard as you and defo more grunt in the box, engine's done over 180k and I don't burn oil.:clap

I cant remember :lol I think it was 10:40 but defo mineral and did cost a lot:eek:
It's due a change soon mind you as I've been on lpg I want drop it and check it. Also submarineing axles need a change too, just incase any breathers have broken etc.
BTW I got my downpipe off last night so will have a price back later I hope :thumb2

Cool ask him also if he will how much just for laser cut turbo flange :thumbs

Yerp or you've got a wonky finger :lol
I'm in the process of fitting my modified turbo for extra low down grunt :sly
Worked out cheaper than a replacement :clap

What you having done ? larger compressor wheel ?

who does that then ?

It's not larger so much as different pattern and angled vanes :sly
You can get them from the states , although I got mine on fleabay, the blokes no longer registered :doh I've got an email address for him though, I'll see if I can drag that out if you want. I think I started a thread on it a while back :lol
