Well done mate:clap
I had every faith in you:thumb2

Work Continues....

So as I can now legally tow it, I pulled the trailer home from work to work on it this week at home, when I was working on it at work I was getting too many distractions and "helpers" turning up and I can't work like that :doh I had to trailer board it back not being fitted with any lights etc yet.

I started with the base, I'm using the plastic tongue and groove that I found near the trailer at work, it's real real strong stuff  It's locked together with lengths of threaded bar that have nuts on each end, with one complete board, I worked out that I needed 4 extra planks + a 60mm strip to bridge the gap down the sides which I've now done and just have to drill and bolt through the base now, but not until the electrics and rest of painting is finished.

Ordered some 7 core trailer cable and a new plug that should be here today or tomorrow, going to get the lights drilled and ready to bolt in tonight, it's starting to take shape now :naughty

hey well done, did you use your truck after all as recall were concerned about
about the hitch height?

that break away cable looks hd, is it not a secondary coupling, ie designed not
to break but used to keep a car and non braked trailer together should the
coupling fail. Sure mine looks like that on my project light weight as secured it
to chassis of trailer using bolts for coupling head.

Glad I looked into this, yes you are right, the breakaway cable I have is for use with smaller 750kg camping outfits as you say, the one I'm looking for is a lot longer and thinner and attaches to a ring on the handbrake mechanism, should the trailer leave the car the cable being long and being looped around the tow ball and clipped back onto itself will then pull the handbrake on and then "breakaway" :thumb2

This video shows how it should work on my exact setup, a Bradley Doublelock Hydratow MkIII

No progress last night :( a late night the night before and a hard day at work meant I got home, ate and then collapsed on the living room floor with the TV on and woke up 5 hours later :lol

Full steam tonight to make up for it :thumbs

Progress.....

Lights was the order of the day

A wee mess later.....

Then time to run the wiring, I picked the closest point possible to the light cluster closest to the run I'd picked for the 7 core and attached the connector block there, I've never ran any electrics for anything from scratch before and the lack of wiring and or lights at all already and armed only with a pin outs table of what colour was for what I went at it.

I'm sure there may be better ways of doing this but for my first attempt I was pretty proud that I managed to do a neat enough job, everything was secure and more importantly everything worked first time :thumb2

Feel free to pick faults but if you do please at least provide me with info of how I could have done it better rather than just saying "it's sh*t" :lol :lol

As and when it all stops working I'll then re-wire a better way

Thats after 3 different types of tape and it's still not finished :lol Going to try and make it 100% waterproof with some other stuff I've brought.

All of the lights..............

The a full hose and wash in preperation for the rest of the painting that I'm about to go out and finish right now :thumb2

See you later, enjoy the sunshine people

It's definitely not sh!t mate, and kudos for doing the wiring. I always find that complicated and frustrating to do.

The only think I might have done would be to put that connector block in a little waterproof enclosure to make it easy to access in the future.

If you want one, I can have a look at work for you? I might have something.

Regards

Alan

Thast would be awesome matey :thumb2 Yeah wiring terrifies me :lol But i just worked methodically and I got into it, certainly felt a sense of achivement

Hows yours been mate? since you've done the bush and master cylinder?

Looking tidy pal, as said a nice water proof junction box. Personally and it's only me but I like to tin the ends of the wires and solder any joints. Then blob grease everywhere including inside the plugs as they seem to be great water collection points. Same as the sockets on the car, I fill those with grease including outer terminals. OK if you tow with a modern hitch type of stabiliser the grease is something to avoid contact on the towball. This is only my way and it has served me well over the years but I no longer tow caravans.

Looking good... just one small observation, the triangular reflectors you have must be mounted on a white/light background, to mount them where you have them you must have the reflectors with a white border.

Hiya mate, looks good to me well done :thumb2

Where did you get your lights from and if you don't mind me asking how much? I have a caravan chassis that I have been landed with and I might turn it into a trailer if things work out financialy

Jim some sound suggestions there, I'm crap witrh the soldering iron if I'm totally honest so I'll give that bit a miss but will certainbly employ the use of a junction box after TONUP's very kind offer to source me one and will apply grease accordingly :thumb2

I need to talk tyres with someone now as I've been trying to price some up. My current tyres and wheels are shot and I would really carry any weight on them until they have been replaced, they are of legal tread depth but a little perishing and I don't know their history, so they are being done.

They are 5.00 x 8 but I'm struggling to find this combination anywhere and when I do they are extortionate, I have been quoted £76 per wheel and tyre for a 5.00 x 8 yet I can pic up a 4.00 x 8 for £26.95 :nenau
