Well done Zac. Even if he had said he'd opened them up, there's nowt wrong with whipping them off to check. Can't be too careful:thumb2

It looks like it's coming on well, and your right not to trust your safety to someone else.

Looking forward to more pics of the next stage of the job.

Regards

Alan

Thanks guys, it just saddens me when you have a passion for a job you are doing and then someone lets you down like that.

A lot of people would have to trust their safety to others which is the scary part, I'd never trust my vehicle with a garage ever again after seeing and hearing some stories

Reminds me of when I first started work in a commercial vehicle workshop, (Plating and testing had just been introduced) in fact I took one of very first trucks to the test station in Hastings, any way the governors father's method of testing the brakes on a 16 ton tipper was to jack it up, put a 10ft bar on a wheel nut while a mate applied the brakes!!! well I was laughing so much inside I had a job to control myself, when I told him that was not a good test at all, he was not best pleased that this new boy had criticised him, but when it failed and we stripped the brakes down, and found them to be shot, he left me to it after that, Rick

Fair Play Rick :thumb2

Not been an update in here for a while and as I was having a play today why not.

Since the last time it was home, it's had a set of 4 new wheels and tyres, I've got some new hub caps for it too as the old ones were in that bad of a shape that 3 have flown off into the road and the grease has flicked all onto the wheels :doh

Here's some reflectors I've decided I'm going to slap on, the hub caps in the plastic bag and an old ammo box I've decided I'm going to strip, paint and then attach to the A-Frame with to store straps etc, going to get it padlocked too

Box stripped ready to paint tomorrow

Then I set about turning my attention to the damaged jockey wheel. When I found the trailer at work, it had that much weight on it and hadn't been secured corretcly causing years of stress on the pole which had bent it like a banana, as such, it I couldn't wind it in and out correctly.

I looked around for a replacment and couldn't believe the prices for something of the same size and spec, I heated the damn thing up with a butane torch and then hammered the hell out of it in the vice and I still couldn't straighten it out.

I decided that I was going to cut the old tube out and weld a new one in, £4 lighter I cut the excess to match the old one and just need to weld it on at work on Monday :thumb2 Then back home for some paint

I love it pal. Well handy to have a trailer to use. You've done a great job :thumbs

Looking good that trailer now. Those jockey wheels seem a bit of a rip off with the prices. Think I ended up getting one from eBay quite cheap as I was fitting one to my camping type trailer. Made life a whole lot easier with a jockey wheel though so worth me spending the cash that time around.

You're telling me, I'm going to see if I can find an original tailgate for it and if I can't I'll end up making one. I've also thought about getting some box section the same size as the original stuff and building the height up thus turning it into a box trailer :nenau :naughty

Is there any threads or owt inside of the old tube on the jockey wheel?

Not in the part I've replaced mate, all the clever winding gubbins is in the top part with the handle, that's why it was important that I got the exact same internal diameter tube. It's just a threaded bit of bar with a "cap" that's the exact same size as the diameter of the tube, it's clever in the way it works and I understand the principal but I'm not awake enough to put that into words at the minute :lol

I looked and couldn't find one for less than £30, I've got the money to get one just if I can save a bit of cash I will, £4 and a free ride on the welder Monday was a lot more lucrative an option to me.

Got me a new rear plate for the trailer the weekend as the one I was using was pretty beat up!!!!

Fitted the plate into it's new holder and then attached the plate light and tapped into the sidelights feed :thumb2

Box has been painted but need some longer bolts so wasn't able to secure yet :doh

Then I came to test the lights and was disappointed :( Looks like I need 2 plate lights which was common sense really :doh Even with an LED bulb in it doesn't really do the job too well so I'll be getting a 2nd and moving the original :thumb2

Looking good Banshee:thumb2
It's come a long way from the pictures in the first post.
I've got a pair of little number plate fixing bolts with built in LEDs I'm going to fit on my trailer.
Used them on the quad bike I used to have when I upgraded the rear lights.
Really bright and lasted well.

Looking good.
Just need to get some walls built, and a roof, some furniture and a small kitchen a bathroom, and...... :naughty :p

Cheers guys :thumb2

It's back at work at the minute now that's as much as I'll be able to do for a while as that spot on the drive is going to be taken by Granddads Terrano after I've MOT'd it this week and then will be going up for sale after it's been Waxoyled

Ideas Time

I've decided that I want to turn this into a box trailer.

What are peoples ideas? I'd like to be able to store stuff in it but also want to be able to use it for camping in too?

I suppose I'm trying to go for something like..... Cheaper DIY Ifor Williams Box Trailer without breaking the bank.

I thought of using box section the same grade and width as the current stuff and building the shell up like that then boarding it up with wood, plastic, metal?

Thoughts guys, I'm willing to hear some ideas :thumb2

Not sure about construction materials but weight will soon build up.

Would angle iron be better than box section especially for the corners, be easier to attach side panels if you see what I mean.

i'm in the early stages of designing a camper trailer that i want to build on to the horsebox chassis that i have.
I was hoping to use aluminium to keep the weight down.
This is along the lines of what i have in mind.
