My Maverick petrol 2.4 seems reluctant to rev. Going uphill, it seems to run out of steam and will misfire a bit. It feels like a fuel starvation issue rather than anything else. Any ideas?
It pulls fine with light throttle, but there's no go with the pedal mashed down. Well, it will go, but not as much as I'd expect. Also, in neutral, it will only rev to about 5500rpm with my foot right down. It'll rev higher with light throttle.
It has recently had new air filter, new plugs (the old ones were disgusting - I'm surprised it ran!) and the HT leads look ok. I've become aware after a search that there's another air filter in the plenum. I did undo the thumb screws when doing the service but it didn't seem to want to come apart, so I left it. Could this be the culprit or is there a fuel filter somewhere?
I did try unscrewing the fuel cap. There was certainly a good vacuum going on, as there was a rush of air as I undid it, but that didn't help cure the problem.
