When the engine warning light comes on does your vehicle lose power ? ...i.e. little or nothing when you hit the accelerator pedal.Does the light go out and power returns ?

I have a fault with my Mav...intermittently the engine warning light comes on...I lose all power.I discovered that if I 'ping' the accelerator pedal with my foot when the light comes on this clears the light and all power returns instantly.I think this is down to a small micro switch on the accelerator pedal assembly sticking which causes the MIL warning light to come on.
Before discovering this I thought it was the MAF or air in fuel lines or knackered fuel filter...but no its down to the little switch...I have sprayed contact cleaner into the switch but this has not cured the problem which only occurs every few days...flick of the pedal with my foot and hey presto we are good to go again.

Hi, mine seems right as rain now, i think it was either a dodgy fuel filter or one of the pipe clips that i undid and refastened...they have both been replaced with new now.

Have you checked the fault code to see if it can give you any definite idea as to your problem?

Cheers
Stephen

Hi Stephen

I did check the fault codes...been a while though...its almost certainly down to the microswitch on the accelerator assembly...MAF is a clean as a whistle...I actually sourced a new pedal assembly on Flebay...just haven't got round to fitting it yet...cos as I say a wee flick of the pedal and everything is right as rain again...takes about a millisecond to do and I'm lazy :)
