Really comming on well, Won't be long until it's done. That outer sill patch you had to bend with basic tools came out well!

Cheers Fez:thumbs. I'm really happy with what I've achieved so far:D.
I need to get some heavier gauge steel for the chassis and a reel of wire, then providing there is no more rot I think there is about a days work and she will be ready for mot.

Thanks Jims-terrano:thumb2. Don't get me wrong it has been scary to make those cuts but getting rid of as much rot as possible is the key to repair longevity. I have had to leave some rusty steel in place and repair over it, but treat it afterwards. Also my welding skill still has plenty of room for improvement, I just hope that what I have done will pass an mot. Craig my neighbour seems to be impressed with my welding and he should know mot standard as I have had him do my welding in the past:lol
I am also not looking forward to fabricating the area where the sill curves round and joins the sill, but providing I take my time I might surprise myself:lol and it will be covered with the plastic trim anyway:augie

Well you have done a great job with it. I used to do loads of repairs myself but in recent years I've lost my confidence.

I've only recently gained the confidence to do this type of repair work mainly due to not having the right tools for the job. I'm still building up my tool box but have the bare essentials for now.

Here is today's work. I had to keep trial fitting the plastic trim to ensure the repair section was in the right place and shape.

The rot in the chassis just forward of back wheels. I've cut out the one side and bottom of rail but left the other side until new steel welded in place. Don't want the chassis bending in on me :(. And new plate made up ready to weld in place if the rain fooks off.

Not sure. My mate got hold of it for me, I know it's a lot thicker than the 20 gauge I'm using for the body. I had to use a cutting wheel on it as my metal sheers wouldn't touch it.

Not having much luck with the weather today it just started raining so packed my stuff away as it looked like it was in for the day and would you bloody believe it?. It's stopped as I'm typing. Doh. Anyway welded the chassis today. I believe I have one last piece of welding in the inner sill which is only small then fingers crossed I'm done. The only other thing I need for mot is a set of wiper blades. As far as I'm aware.

I would like to undersell the whole underside before mot if possible aswell.

Yeah its worth it. I did mine as best as poss, you can see in my bumperless pics where I could not get to the rear of the chassis fully :lol

Thats my next project :thumb2

Also they say, prevention is better than cure

Your right there Alex about prevention rather than cure, and this last plate is proof of that. This is the inner sill just forward of the rear body mount and what a complete bar steward it was to get at. I've had to clean the bad steel as best I can and weld a plate over it. I managed to do a good job with a wire wheel in my drill luckily as I couldn't get the grinder in to cut it out. For the same reason it was a pain to weld hence the dodgy finish.

Well I believe I have completed the welding on the old girl so fingers crossed a set if wiper blades and she will hopefully go through an mot. The work won't finish there though as there are other jobs that need attention on her but they can wait until she is road worthy again.
I have to say that my welder has got to be the best piece of equipment I have ever bought for my tool kit. It has paid for itself about 3 times over already.

My truck is solid underneath but given how close you are to me, if I ever needed any doing, would you be interested in doing any welding for some cold hard cash?

Tell me to F off if you don't want to, I know some people loathe it!!!!

Hey Banshee. Sorry I've only just seen your post. I could possibly be persuaded to. I work for the NHS and do funny shifts so my days off fall during the week more than weekends. I'm sure we could work something out if and when the time comes. :)
