Right folks opinions please...

Fed up of the high oil pressure sensor in the truck having occasional brain farts and putting the warning light on so I'm going to fit a proper gauge so I can check the pressure myself (and I'll probably pull the dash bulb while I'm at it). You can replace the sensor but it'll just do it again.

Question - Since both will be electrical (I'm not having high pressure oil lines inside the truck) do I go digital gauge or analogue as prices are similar and I'm more interested in functionality than looks :nenau

Obviously I'll be able to read a digital one more accurately as there's a limit to the increments that can be shown on a small gauge but I was thinking an analogue one will be easier to read in certain situations like strong sunlight etc...

I would have thought the digital ones to be backlit and readable in any light.
Nowt between them other than personal choice IMO.

Hydrualic is best

Call me a traditionalist but I have always prefered a proper old fashioned pressure gauge to a sender unit and head unit be it digital or analog.

Its only a narrow copper capillary pipe to the gauge and you get a real reading !

Your electrical types depend on regulated voltage, a good sender then a good display unit to display the signal.

My experience with Aquarium temperature gauges only re-enforces my thinking.
Battery drive temperature gauges with a thermocouple are not as reliable long term as a good old fashioned glass tube thermometer !

I think with instruments like fuel, temp and pressure, analogue is better, as you do not need to know to the exact amount, but you want to be able to do a quick glance to make sure it is in the right area, and needle that is too high, or low, stands out much quicker than looking at a line of numbers, and then trying to do a translation in your head to if it is a good or bad number... lets face it 000 takes up as much space, and produces the same amount of LED light, as 999, so there is nothing to pull your attention

Volt meters, ammeters, tachos and speedos, etc are better as Digital, as you tend to naturally look at those for info, and want that info to be exactly correct at a glance.

Totally agree with the info above. A needle pointing in the correct region will give an instant indication that the oil pressure is fine. After all you don't want to look at digital gauges that will often be changing several times a second, then interpret them, then have another look, by this time you have travelled a few hundred metres.

However, I prefer the digital speed readout on the Picasso, it clearly shows 30 mph without having to look at the needle square on, to interpret the speed.

With speed cameras every where, every second counts...

One of these could work for you, it has both analogue and digital displays.
It also doubles as a voltmeter.
