its wrong then
i got a spare petrol one here if its the same as a td i'll post it

Thanks for that,Colin. I'll check if it's the same with my local Nissan dealer tomorrow and let you know.

Colin,I measured my dipstick,it is 22" long. At present the oil level is three quarters of an inch from the bottom. Can you check yours and see if the max mark is twenty one and a quarter inches from the top of the dipstick?

I seem to remember an old thread where thee are different dipsticks on different years, not just across the TD/TDi change, theres photos too as irecall. Have a search and see what you can find.

Ok,so I've checked with Nissan and there are 11 different types listed for my year T2.Nice chap explained that just because there are different numbers it doesn't necessarily follow that they are different dipsticks as they could have different numbers because they are manufactured in different factories. That makes sense to me as I have experience of something similar in a previous job, however as it is an important part I have ordered it from Nissan. Thanks for all the help, much appreciated. Incidentally, he also said the Patrol 260 dipstick is the same. Ah well,40 Euro or thereabouts for a new one. Still, cheaper than a new engine.

40 euros for a dipstick!!! Mother of Mary thats highway robbery!

Shame you haven't got a scrapper close by.:(

Daylight robbery alright. I do have a couple of scrappers nearby but they either don't have T2's or else will not sell the dipstick as they only sell the engines complete. They have also adopted the practice of keeping most stuff behind fences so you can't even go walkabout and maybe find one dropped on the ground,if you know what I mean. All falling over themselves to comply with H&S regulations, only their staff allowed near the goodies. At least I will have the correct one ,even if it does cost a bit.

scrappers ain't what they used to be thats for sure...gone are the days when you could come home with a pocketful of bulbs, fasteners etc.. after a little wander!:naughty

Yeah, I used to be amazed at all the bits that would fall off these cars while looking for the part you really wanted!!! That's probably why they are so into H&S these days, they obviously don't want to risk people being injured by all the flying bulbs, locks, door handles etc.

Sshh!!! People will start talking, I will measure mine as well and we can see who has the biggest one. Mine has a springy thing on the end and no min or max marks. I will take a pic and post it here.
sorry didnt get time to measure mine. but your sorted now anyway
bit expensive but at least its right ay

hey i wont loose any sleep over it..... mind you the missus dont either:eek:

yeah...... you keep hinting,

i did tell her but she just giggled

she's just being coy for your benefit. you know you're yesterdays news now. and she hasn't even seen my golf gloves yet!:naughty:augie:lol

Picked up the over priced dipstick from Nissan today,€35. Same bloody length as the one I have but a lot thinner and easier to get an oil level on.At least now I know I have the correct amount of oil in it. Anyone need a dipstick as the old one is available?

hmm so what about the original problem.... i guess you still have that too:doh

And of course they wouldnt want you hurting yourself carrying around your large, half empty (on the way in) tool box :augie:D
