Thats why then, never ever bought a filter from main dealer, don't belive in paying £20 for summut they pay £3 for.
I only buy things I can't source anywere else

Thats cheap from main dealer. My local dealer wanted £30 for an oil filter for my T2. They never got it and I didn't get my free sump washer -rotfl-

Never had a free sump plug washer with filter from motor factors

Exactly my point, Nissan don't make filters, they either get one made by a filter maker say FRAM for thier purpose or use one that already exists, usually one thats made for summut else.
In my days as a plant fitter some of the Lister diesel engines used the same filter as a Ford escort 1300 or was it the Cortina 1600. But it was the same filter. Granted you have to be carefull as some filters are full flow, while others have a built in by-pass to allow oil to flow round engine even if filter is blocked.
You can get a manufacturers cataloge, maybe online one that gives you the specs, what they fit and the internal plumbing arrangements IE full flow or any valve's fitted, even as much info as the thread diamiter and pitch and the o ring sizes

On all my vehicles I have never replaced the sump washer and never had any leaks, are you over tightening the plug which is damaging the washer?
Most sump plugs are semi locking just tighten up finger tight then check tension.

Finger tight ! have you tried to remove one that a dealer has fitted.... 8O
I found it best to use a T bar with a socket to save putting a side force on the nut, it's only a bit of tin the the sump plug is attached to, I'm surprised we don't strip more of them.
Tighten it a bit, if it leaks tighten a bit more, as I said before I use Calortite / or red hemetite. Never leaks.
Its a bit like the compression nuts on plumbing, they leak when they are too tight as they have distorted the copper..

Thats why a dealer charge is so expensive for such a simple job.
To help cover there stuff ups.

I've never taken my own vehicles to a dealer for a oil change.

If done properly you shouldn't need any thing else to seal it.

I agree too tight and that's was cause the leak, finger tight and the right amount of tension is the secret.

sump washer

the part number you want is 11026 61000. measurement is 22mm o/d, and 15 i/d. This is a collapsible washer and ideally should be replaced every oil change. Hope this helps.

Hi,a stupid question.....where's the sump plug for engine as i dont want to undo the wrong one,and i think someone has mentioned 8 ltrs of oil !wow, most vehicles take 4 to 5 ltrs...Noticed already that there's not much working room in the engine bay of the 99 tdi terrano, have to take starter motor out to clean as it's sticking but thats another post.
