No power :-(

The saga continues!

New glow plugs, new MAF, checked fuel lines, new fuel filter, cleaned out air filter, no fault codes present. it was still chugging and kicking white smoke at about 1800 rpm if you hit the throttle hard.

we suspected bad fuel, and as there wasn't much in, I headed to the fuel station this morning and put a good amount of new stuff in to mix it up. All was fine, I ran it for 10 mins at about 1200 rpm, drove a few miles . . .

Then it suddenly lost power and won't go at more than a very slow walking pace in low ratio 1st gear! :nenau

Ideas please?

I'd bypass the current fuel lines/tank completely and run a small temp tank in the engine bay to see if it still does it.

Buggered fuel primer on filter housing? Getting sucked down when you accelerate.

it doesn't feel buggered, we changed the filter yesterday and it worked fine :nenau

I assume you've checked to see if there's a pesky mini filter lurking in the IP somewhere?

check your leak off pipes . mine was doing that and I found one was weeping . now replaced all is good

yep check for the mini filter yes run a clean supply of fuel to the filter as well have you got clear hoses on it so you can see whats going on with that filter white smoke is usually air, on a bad note robs 3 litre turned out to be pump i hope its not is your case

changed the leak of pipes not long ago. and the loss of power was so sudden, I'm going to try putting the old MAF back on, I suspect the new one might have failed - it was a cheap copy one :nenau

Hmmm, cheapo MAF's have caused issues before haven't they? Wasn't there a link many moons ago for using the same MAF from a Primera at a much lower cost? or have my grey cells been scrambled? More reason to stick to my MAFless MK1!

So, I got in it the next morning an it drive like nothing had happened :nenau

I've but the old maf back on and re-created the original fault, going to try the new on back on next.

Could the power loss have been some kind of air block left over from the fuel filter change? :nenau

possible , its also possible that your fuel primer may be sticking down , fuel filter not sealing properly .........

I had something similar on my off roader a while ago, turned out to be debris in the inlet banjo bolt to the filter, almost blocked, cleared it out no probs since, it looked like a small piece of dish cloth type material from memory, so worth a quick check, found you a complete dash bit by the way, Rick

Next time it plays up take off your filler cap and try again, Banshee had a similar problem a while ago

Where is the vent ? on the cap or filler pipe just I want to make sure mines clears, stiil need to clean/remove the mini filter but winds far to high

The clue I got from Banshee was the comment he made that removing the filler cap made a sort of 'pop'.
Hopefully he will update you on how he fixed his problem.
Another clue was the button on the fuel primer being stuck down

my filler cap has a one way valve built in,take it off and make a seal around it and suck,air should come through then blow and it should seal.

LATEST: all old parts re-fitted, same symptoms. So, I tipped a forte diesel treatment in the tank, put £40 worth of fresh fuel in it and it goes like a rocket!

I think it was a bad batch of diesel at ASDA :thumb2
