I decided to introduce my project from Finland. I was dreaming of a ex. MOD Defender but I didn't have enough money. I also wanted more practical car for daily use because we have a small child.

So it all started of a car which was in very sad condition and high mileage. However this Terrano was different than others here in Finland. It had very rare registration documents as being a 5 person "van" in papers. That means that it is still the same car but very small tax/year. I don't know if you have these kind of things in UK. Only difference is that rear seat is only for temporary use and top speed is limited (in papers) to 100km/h.

Ok.. the reason for buying was simply that it was very cheap because of rough condition. Low price allows crazy things because I have quite nice budget for the "restoration".

The title for this project is riot/offroad/madmax/mil spec vehicle :D I don't know how far I'm going to take this vision but we shall be smarter later on. :lol

The BIGGEST portion of the project is repairing all the rust.. And there is a lot of rust. This is madness...

At this point I will put some photos of the starting point of the project. :doh

Before this madness started

This is funny

What rust? :nenau

I also found a bird nest from top of the fuel tank

Marked lines for UK Ebay seller where he will cut wheel arches for me. It was impossible to find non rusty rear wheel arches from Finland.

Front inner wheel arches...

Other faults in this vehicle:
-rear axle LSD doesn't work
-fwd doesn't work
-oil leak
-cooling system leak
-front right door doesn't open from outer handle
-front right door electric window doesn't work
-front antiroll bar needs service
-summer tyres needs replacing
-ABS didn't work when I was test driving this but when I drove this back home it started working..?

So, a bit to do then!!! Another truck gets the treatment.. See you chopped a big chunk of chassis off.

Good luck.
Seems there's a fair few fixing rotter's just lately, plenty of projects threads to have a read through :thumb2

looks interesting!!!! I have a rear diff if you want to strip yours and find the faulty/broken bits I can then strip mine and send you the parts, keeps shipping charge down, also the door opening not from the outside is adjustable via a cam inside near the outer handle, Rick

Good luck with the project, can't wait to sit back and read someone elses project work as I've just got mine back on the road. Please feel free to read my project thread, link in my signature.

If you are lucky the ABS issues will be a faulty wire going to one of the sensors but this is the least of your worries at the moment.

I've not dared take my rear bumper off yet or the rear wheel arch trims. This will be removed in springtime to allow us to repair any problems.

Thanks!

A couple of times I have been picking up some new original repair parts for body from local Nissan dealer... :D

This is quite old picture but are they like two peas in a pod? :lol My Terrano and wife's CR-V.

Most of the interior removed to inspect all the rust and this makes it also easier to repair all the rust.

Yes there is a lot to do.. especially with the rust. I work as an inspector in a MOT center so this have to be done in a decent way. :augie

I was forced to cut the rear of the chassis off because otherwise it would have been impossible to fix all the rust in the rear of the body. Best way would have been to remove the body from the chassis but I don't have possibility to do that in my house so I have to do it this way.

Yes me too . You have taken on a real challenge with that truck, but you look like you know what you are doing. Another auto project too.like Jim's, I couldn't go back to a manual now

Bought these 31" AT's for next summer.. If they are big enough.. we shall see.

I started repairing the body from the rear... At this point is maybe good to tell you that I'm not even going to make this look like original.

Here is some new panel to the car

This has been my way to do the body repairs..

1. Make a cardboard template

2. Cut sheet metal match up to the cardboard

3. Welding...

4. More welding.. and grinding if you wan't to...

What a tease, looking forward for some more pictures :thumbs

Super interested of the cut arches!!! :clap
