Well guys as you wmay of seen the truck passed MOT yesterday, got her home and taxed straight away.
Due to the truck not being used for a while I put the battery on charge overnight and left it all day today as it is only a small charger. Also found a major leak from the sunroof, water had been pouring in. Anyway for the moment I’ve stuck gaffer tape over the sunroof edges. Will take a look next weekend, first job will be check drains are still connected behind headlining.
Unfortunately found another problem tonight, the curtesy light won’t switch off when I lock the car or start it up. So have turned it off for now until I have more time.

Quick update on the curtesy light, it was something trapped in the tailgate so my own fault.

I’m not happy with the sill repairs that have been carried out for the MOT. My original plan was to either use box section or take it to a chap in Barnsley who replaced the sills on my old truck. Will look into this in summer and also get it mot’d again in July so that the mot date will be changed so that in theory the weather will be better to work on the truck.

Been busy today

Thought I’d do start a little project on the truck today, it includes a few little jobs that I’d got ready but left and probably wouldn’t have been done at all so got myself into gear.
I fitted a electric distribution panel in the boot with switches on to control the second battery. Will try and post a photo of this later.
So I had run a cable to the front passenger footwell and left it coiled up, wanted to have a power socket at the front that is live from the second battery. Also I have a switch for the rear roof lights in the boot, I noticed that things in the boot could actually turn the lights on so that I was showing white light at the back without knowing it. So I ran a wire for a tell tale indicator on the dash but again it was left coiled under the carpet.
After starting to drive it after MOT I noticed the battery seemed very low. Fitted a new battery and also tightened the alternator belt. I have a cig lighter socket adapter with a rough power level indicator. I’ve been getting a little worried about the indicator showing what looks to be low so decided I needed a voltmeter to be sure what was going on.
I also wanted to be able to connect the dashcam to the second battery so that I could leave it running when I’m not around but also if I ever did have an accident I have the ability to over ride the power turning on and off with the ignition.
So made myself a wiring loom that utilises the second battery with relays operated from the ignition.
So by tomorrow I will be able to over ride the ignition for dashcam and manually power it on.
Plug anything in to use the second battery from the front.
Have the tell tale light for the rear Work lights.
See the voltage of the main battery with ignition on or with ignition off a little push button to see the voltage.
A bit miffed as I managed to catch bottom edge of centre console with te chuck on the dremel which has made a mess but all being well when fitted it won’t show.
Will be up early fitting all this lot in the morning so should be able to post another update afterwards.

Incidentally I’ve left the masking tape on one half of the console so that I still have my centre line for drilling holes.
I’ve also labelled all the wires so easy fit tomorrow with a bit of luck.

sounds interesting, if a little complicated, I will have to re read this when sober, Rick

Slow progress really today I’m afraid. Had a phone call at 9 this morning from an instructor on a first aid course asking me to take over as he was ill and had to go home. So that was my morning gone.

Got most of my wiring done on the centre console but unfortunately as I brought each circuit live I discovered my test button for the voltmeter is a push to break the circuit not push to make the circuit so I need to disconnect the switch and buy another from maplins at some point this week. By the time I had finished it was too dark to take any photos.

Tasty New Sills

A bit of an update.

Well the sills had been patched before I got the truck but were untidy. Always on the to do list but when the screwdriver finally went through I thought it was about time to get sorted. I set about and cut the patches back until I got to good metal. Sadly a combination of not being well and lack of time I decided to take the truck to a really good craftsman in Barnsley who does nothing but MOT type welding repairs. He fitted new sills to my old truck so I know his work is good.
Just picked it up today and spent the afternoon painting outer sills green. He replaced rear half inner and outer both sides. Under sealed inner sills and stone guard whole of the outer sills for the princely sum of £200!

That does look like a nice job! Good price too I would say for a drop off, pick up, don't worry about it type of thing. :thumb2
