Next Project MG B GT

Think I've found my next project. Happened to mention to a friend that I fancy doing something like an MG B next. Guess what he has one in his garage, he was offered £250 a while back but didn't accept it but he'd willing to sell it to me for that or do a bit of a swop for some kit that I have. Need to see it but reckon it shouldn't be too bad. It's a 1967 and has been in a dry garage for the last 12 years. Fortunately it's a friend that I know I can trust.

Sounds good a proper chrome bumper model as well, plastic bumpers not until 1971. You've got the main thing you could need your lad a good welder but hopefully not. If all the chrome parts are not too good but are original get them re-chromed as the new stuff is not a patch on the old if they will clean up. Look forward to a new thread.

Nice, we had a Costello conversion many moons ago. Fast.
They do look a bit tiny these days.

Yesterday on Wheeler dealers they were doing up a Triumph spitfire...
Brought back memories on how easy the older cars were to work on.
I still have my timing light and dwell meter lol.
Cylinder heads were a doddle, simple gasket set too.
Parts were so cheap, £34 for a pair of shocks.
So MGB GT with Chrome bumpers, they were the best...
I am very envious of that.
I wish I had a friend with something like that in his garage or barn.
Free road tax, cheap classic insurance...

Rustic, don't you find that wheeler dealers programme can be a bit botch it and leg it. They actually did a b gt and they put some mg owners club refurbed rostyle wheels but when they fitted them they used the old rusty wheel nuts. I've seen other botches too. Just sayin:lol

I kinda like the Wheeler Dealer ones where they spend about 20 hours in the workshop, and about 20 hours parts hunting, then manage to sell the car for about £100 profit!

Absolutely!

I mean, you can tell it's staged.

You never see Ed with knuckles missing or lobbing the pry bar across the workshop 'cos it's slipped and taken his thumbnail off!

I used to help restore old MG's & always had a soft spot for the B GT:thumbs you can get replacement panels & repair panels for them or at least you could a few years ago. The mechanical side of things is nice & easy & a fully restored one can easily get £9000 would love one myself to restore:augie

They seem to sell for good money if properly restored with a good supply of spares available.

Wonder if it has been converted to run on unleaded fuel I think exchange cylinder heads are reasonably priced ?

I like the MGB RV8 there are quite a few imports from Japan that have low miles and are RHD.

Like many so called classics they have no depreciation as such like modern cars but rebuild costs can get out of hand but if its a labour of love then it is a nice past time with some great owners clubs.

OK, self correction, it wasn't a V8, it was a 3 ltr straight 6 from the old Healy 3000.
