I should know better than start a war of wits with you :banghead i always loose :(
Does it still work if you were adopted or don't know who your father is. :nenau

I haven't ever bought anything from the internet, except Isle of Man ferry tickets! I assumed that batteries were expensive to ship due to their acid contents (sealed-for-life can still leak if dropped by ham-fisted couriers!), so I went on the wisdom of a hint from an old acquaintance who told me...blah, blah, blah... obviously, he's wrong!! :nenau

The way I look at buying parts is, if I can't take it back directly in the event of a duff item being delivered, I won't buy it. I've had too many duff items posted in the past - I trust very few!

The Unipart "shite" I've been offered was in fact an Exide (amongst other makes), a 90amp-rated jobbie at below £100inc vat - we'll see, as I'm in no rush to empty my Maverick-depleted bank account until next month.

I just hope I haven't bought a dud vehicle, after all the aggro I've had in the past two months...

Ok - replaced the air filter (clogged totally black!) & gently cleaned the MAF, replaced the fuel filter (judging by the state of it, an original fitment from the factory...)...and what a pong! I've discovered that the previous owner of the vehicle (who lost it to a creditor and evidently didn't like that idea) has actually pee'd into the tank, and that's worked its foul way through... I know that pong from other jobs - a disgusting trick to pull on someone...

Topped up the radiator (3.5ltrs? Uh-oh...!). Fitted the new battery (£92inc from Unipart, 90amp job), got it started, then stopped, then started with a splutter...obviously got an airlock (I know the filters are sealed - they're well wound-on!)... eventually got it running long enough to drive it up onto ramps before switching it off.

Set about fitting new tailpipe on the zorst...and the exit pipe from the rear box fell orft in me 'ands! Bugger it! Another call to my friend in Unipart - new zorst on order for £56 - won't argue with that one!

What's worrying me now, though, is the discovery of a slow but steady drip, drip-drip, drip, of water from somewhere behind the turbocharger unit, rearward from the oil filter. I can see two blue hex-head waterway plugs, but they're tight with no leaks evident around them, but I think I can see a small-bore hose tucked in there too, so I wonder if it's sprung a slight leak? I did consider the old Barrs Leaks jollop, but I'm hoping it's not the head gasket (seems to be emanating below that level, anyway).

Need a PDF engine manual, I suppose - any pointers on that and/or the likely leak, please?

Yep, that was extreeeeeeeeemely quick! Really appreciate that link, Briggie - downloaded & saved, along with the other one on the website link in the Spec Forum!

Thanks so much, chaps - gotta go read 'em now, & stop worrying!! :bow:lol

wow, i cant believe what that guy did to the car, pointless!! anyway, you sound to be making serious progress. Did you prime the fuel filter?? as for the leak, hmm...check the dip stick. This happened to Jims-Terrano, the dip stick has a bracket that attaches to the engine, his leaked out of that bolt hole, because the garage didnt re fit the bolt. could be its leaking out and round perhaps...just a thought!

Oooer! I'll do just that tomorrow, Clivvy! Thanks, mate - I'll let you know...:thumb2

 briggie why didn't you send the link to your own manuals site?

me and richio have made a site where we are putting all the workshop manuals we can find in one place , so its easier for members instead of looking all over the place , obviously there may be a few teething problems at first , but bear with us please , we are only trying to help.

the site address is below

Worked fine for me, Briggie - got what I needed, straight away!:thumb2

Thanks, guys - you deserve a lollipop each! :D:clap

Well - fingers crossed, and all that... All the kit's fitted, plus a bottle of K-Seal for the drippy-drip - and it appears to have settled down at last!! :thumbs

I've been for a few laps of our housing estate to get it settled & warmed up, checked the leak, seen it's easing off, so I trundled off to dump the dud zorst pipes at the tip; no problem, the leak seems to have stopped (reckon it was a weeping core plug)... A half-smile, now...:)

Back home via Tesco, re-started ok, off to B&Q an hour ago for a central heating pump (MORE money out!!) - leak stopped, motor running smooth at up to 70mph on dual carriageway... Well - looks like I've sorted it! Hallelujah!....But I won't be going TOO far yet, until I get fully used to it and get some regular local mileage under its wheels; it's probably fine, but after my recent disasters, I ain't taking ANY chances!!! :naughty

One thing, though - it's a bit shuddery at tickover & feels like it's going to cut out, so how do you adjust the tickover on the 2.7TDi? I can't see a throttle cable - is it electronic control? Or just well hidden??:nenau

So far, so good, though...

it'll be drive by wire mate, no adjustment as such, the ECU deals with it. I'd give it a hundred miles maybe a bit less for it to learn (i forget how long it needs, but its not instant as it has to adjust to your driving etc)

its probably running at around 700rpm?? mines very similar, feels like you just need to give it an extra 50 rpm and its smooth as silk. they reckon you can adjust tickover by adjusting the little sensor that sits at the top of the accelerator pedal. If you grab a torch and shine it up there, you will see it. two screws hold it on, by all accounts you loosen the screws a bit, and adjust the sensor, kinda like a distributor i suppose, and it allows you that +-50 rpm i believe. I have tried to get to mine, but im not a contortionist....

Thought it'd be summat too flippin' complimicated...!

We'll see, then - I'll give it a while & see how it likes its clean breathing & drinking, then...

Yep, ticks over between 650-700rpm, always feels a little ropey at start, then feels like it might cut on decelerating...given the past few weeks & my disastrous introduction to Maverick-dom, it don't do m palpitations any good!!!:doh

Cheers for that advice, though, mate - really appreciate it! Does wonders, to know mine's not a doggy-doo & some behaviour like this is normal...:thumbs

mine was pretty much the same when i got it, maybe not as bad. it should level out shortly as the ecu re learns whats what, plus, you need to get that injector cleaner through the system as well and give it a THRASHING. I couldnt believe how hard these cars needed to be driven, first time I realised it was when I had driven to work (25 mins drive) early one morning, only to find i forgot my keys to open up, had to thrash it back home and it drove like a dream! I have since discovered that pushing furthur down on the pedal makes it really shift. Like you i spent a LOT of time driving very carefully, worrying it might break, only to build a bad driving habit by hardly pressing the pedal, then thinking its got bad acceleration and power! Now I floor it if needed and it shifts!

one day I hope to adjust that little wotsit, just to get the idle a tiny bit more even, then ill be very happy indeed. I know what you mean about feeling it might cut out, again, mine was the same. its not quite as bad now, i just get the odd random leap in revs (VERY slight) but you can feel it, if I tape the pedal just ever so slightly to raise the idle, its perfect, doesnt do the random leap thing at all, which is why i want to adjust my idle!! Also, it has done this since the day I got it, and hasnt got worse, and has never actually cut out, not any where close.
