Been following this with interest as I hate my current key and have no spare.

So have I got this right...

Buy 2 of the (newer) flip style key fobs
Replace the blades with the correct ones and cut to match current key
Fit my current transponder into one fob
Get a new ID60 transponder for the other & get programmed by locksmith

I will then have 2 fully working flip style key fobs? Or is there other programming to be done somewhere?

Put a pic of your key blade on here. Nissan changed the keys yours might be the larger one so no need to change the blade in the flip, just get it cut.
Your local key cutter man will have the transponders or source your own for £5. (takes ya chance)
Have you just got the 1 key at the mo, no spare?

You said you got no spare, didn't read it right.

For the spare, you will need to find another key fob from eBay or wherever and remove the remote locking internals and battery for the flip key.

this is all really helpful stuff guys, thank so much. im going to visit a key cutter this weekend to see if I can at least get a key cut that will start the car, then buy a new fob form ebay and re program it!:thumbs

That's right, no spare. So I'll have to get another like the one I already have as well as the new flip one to transfer everything over?

This is my current key. I reckoned it's the smaller blade?

^^that's the same as mine, and yah I think that's classed as the smaller blade from what I have seen searching on line..

How do I get the remote locking internals programmed to work on my car?

well, got a new key cut today with transponder, £35 at Timpsons. Tested and working, so I am well pleased. I have bought a used fob from ebay so when that arrives I will get another key cut for that, so I will have two spares and one full key plus fob. :thumbs

Hi Mate.

Am I right in thinking that the key you had cut and programmed, will unlock the door and start the car, but the alarm will activate when you open the door, as the key has no remote to turn the alarm off...

exactly right! just so happens on my car, the last owner has unplugged the alarm siren for this very reason - once I get remote programmed ill be reconnecting it. of course the alarm goes off just a couple of seconds after turning the ignition to on, but I found that not starting shortly afterwards will engage the immobiliser so you have to turn off then on again.

ok, got a old used remote from ebay, £15, and programmed it as per the download. YAY!! Took quite a few attempts, plus I put the battery in the wrong way also!

One thing I noticed - now I have a remote programmed, if I remove the key from the ignition, and just sit there for about 30 seconds, it locks all the doors.

Handy if you forget to lock the doors when going shopping or something, but annoying if Im working on the car.

Is there a way to change this, disable this, or is it just "a feature"?

oh hold on, I have the manual ill read it, but if anyone has some advice id appreciate it because I haven't had a terrano with remote central locking before...

Does programming the transponder just work the central locking and start the car? Is there additional programming required for the alarm? If so, how do I do that?

the transponder programming starts the car, the key itself will unlock the car central locking manually. If you buy a fob from ebay (used one) you can program that as well which will of course turn off the alarm.

If you use the key to unlock the doors, the alarm will go off until you insert the key into the ignition and switch on.

this is why I bought a used fob so I could disable the alarm the normal way.

so, to sort the alarm you need a fob from ebay or where ever (mine cost £16) and follow the programming guide in the downloads section, may take a few attempts as it did me, but it worked.

Ah, now I see, it all makes sense now. Thanks for explaining that a bit clearer for me :bow
