Renault had nothing to do with the design/manufacture of theZD30 engine.
From another forum:
This comment comes up on occasion and a few years ago there was a reasonable debate on its authenticity. I heard there was even a press release relating to this, but the FACT is that not one bolt on a ZD30 is Renault. The FACT is that Renault adopted the ZD30 and a few smaller versions (ZD25) because they didn’t have a suitable diesel engine for their light truck and van market. The ZD30 Di was introduced to the Patrol long before it ever turned up in a Renault. Renault didn’t acquire an interest in Nissan until May 1999 and an agreement was made in November 2000 for Nissan to supply Renault with ZD engines.
Also another interesting fact is that the CRD was developed for the Renault supplied engines long before it came to Australia.

Nissan Motor and Nissan Diesel
to supply Renault with Diesel engine

Nissan Motor, Nissan Diesel and Renault announced a long-term agreement today for Nissan Motor and Nissan Diesel to supply diesel (ZD) engines to Renault and Renault VI beginning in the spring of 2003. Under the agreement, production of the ZD engine will double as Renault and Renault VI purchase approximately 30,000 engines a year. These come in addition to the approximately 30,000 engines currently supplied to Nissan Motor.

Yeah, I think it was due to poor oil feed in the early engines which made the destroy themselves.

Billcars in shrewsbury is the place to go they will be i think cheaper than Nissan
They did mine and at 118,000 miles it still runs like its brand new.
You can read more about the problems of the D22 engine the neutral position switch etc., here http://www.nissan-navara.net/
Beware the cowboys in Bradford.
Tony
The oil pick up seal is a rubber groumet that fails. Billcars is a machined tube with two rubber seals.

So is this problem being sorted by Nissan?, there should be a recall :nenau

Exactly what I was thinking !

If it was a vw/Audi/BMW it would be sorted, remember BMW m50 engines and the nicasil liner problem ? BMW replace 1000's of engines for free

There was a recall dont now if there still is but at the time if you didnt have an uptodate service history forget it
Theres a lot of info on the other nissan site after i had the engine sorted by billcars it was a cracking truck only got rid as needed more seats

Thing is its £2k for all the lab and parts to mod it isn't it ?

Better off buying a hilux as a potential buyer, shame as I do like the navara

I think the parts are like £200 for shells, bolts and gaskets etc, then it's 20hrs labour at home on the drive so I read on navara forum. Drop diff, release gearbox and drop back 20mm, then sump off, then it's straight forward enough to swap bits etc. there's an oring on the oil pump to or sommit. I suppose it could be an ok summer job, but not one for the winter unless u have a workshop

According to what i have found out it drops one of the con rods (No3) and its a fault from the maufcture of the parts.

I guess we wait and see.

It always seems to be the #3 big end bearing that goes on the SR20DE(T) unit as well as found in the Sunny/Pulsar GTI-R.
Theory behind that one was that the exhaust downpipe runs very close to the bottom of the sump at that point as it passes under the engine.

You can change the big end bolts from undernethe you need to pull the gear box back a bit to get to two sump bolts if i remember right a set of bolts used to be about 140quid
I went for the near engine recon cos the nav i bought had one of those dodgy reconned engines from a garage in bradford just been made redundant so had a bit of cash
Theres some horror stories on the other forum

Still no news as of yet, will keep updating as i find anything out

Forgot to mention that nissan have increased the warrenty on the engine to 90,000 miles.
Tony

Just had a phone call from Nissan..

They have now said due to the age of the vehicle they will not be willing to help in the repairs.

They said " I think you are under the impression we are willing to fix this problem, well i can tell you we wont be, due :confused:to the the vehicles age"

So stuff your service history in other words. it means nothing to us....

Thoughts please!

It's a known fault, with full Nissan history at a sub 100k mileage, that's nothing for any engine, even a bloody lada or sommit

I'd take it too the next level, Nissan UK headquarters. Get someone like watchdog on your side and Inform Nissan of this. Just keep on it and get as many media/public groups/watchdogs etc as you can behind u before you phone them

That was the way i was thinking of going with it to be honest. We will see if they respond with any other offer today as we waiting for another call from them.

3L Terrano a Renault?

Good God no!!!!! the 3l Terrano has a, cough, splutter, Ren...Renault engine? (pun intended).
It was bad enough finding out (on here) that it had Renault axles.
Wish I'd known this before I bought it.... then I wouldn't have. Didn't buy an X-Trail diesel for that very same reason.
Despite learning to drive (or perhaps because?) in a Renault Dauphin (yes it was 50 years ago LOL), known un-afectionatley as the 'blind pig' due to it's rear engine making it unable to travel, or stop, in anything resembling a straight line, it also had the most complicated switch gear I've ever come across eg. 2 horn settings, multiple combinations of lights, some utterly unbelievable! It was also the only (ha, ha, really) reason I failed my first 3 driving tests.
I might be a tad biased but other Renaults of that era taught me otherwise, & I've seen no reason whatsoever to change my mind since. I much prefer vehicles with some concept of reliability.
Too late now but it's seriously shaken my confidence: I kid you not.
Fingers crossed from now on...............

ok so now try your local trading standards if its a known fault and there was a recall originally then they will have to cover it no matter how old it is
