Ok, My niece has a Navara and even though i told her about the problems with the engines on them she still bought it.

She had it 4 weeks (Private sale) and as i said the engine has gone bang. We contacted Nissan as we know its a known fault and they told us to take it to a Nissan agent (Evans halshaw) they have in inspected it and told us it needs a new bottom half £3,500.

Has anyone else had this problem as we were told they may still fix it as its a common fault they know about. They have told us they are sympathetic to this problem, whatever that means.

your thoughts please...

So will they warranty it then or not ?

If not then get watchdog involved etc and pray

Other than that get a recon short engine and have it fitted, still gonna cost £2k I'd think

my mate replaced one, they apparently go at about 70-80k.

Could stick a terrano engine in it ;)

Because its a common fault Nissan have been fixing them, i just want to see if anyone else has had this and what happend with them. Just incase they say it not down to them. Its only done 80,000 with a full Nissan service history.

As fez says, I've seen loads with a retro fitted td27 lump

think the fault on the one my mate did was the big end bearings wear out. Which can be resolved before they go bang, most people find out when it's too late though. :(

Bloody hell, you can just drop the diff and whip the sump off to do big ends :)

Must be an oil pump issue with them or sommit ? Perhaps the oil ways are too narrow and clog up with crap ?

Are the engines in those from Renault, I know Nissan jumped into bed with Renault, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

yes think they r renault same as ur engine is renault not nissan like the old 2.7 diesel :thumbs

According to what i have found out it drops one of the con rods (No3) and its a fault from the maufcture of the parts.

I guess we wait and see.

Jeez ! That's an avoid for me then. Was looking at y61 for my next move, might shelve that idea.

Had a Clio 172 53' plate iirc, great car like a go cart, Handled like fook, went like a rocket but went wrong once a week, total money pit, mostly electrical issues and cutting out, which was the fuel relay but so intermittent

had it for about 8 months before I got rid, swore I'd never have another French car although I also had a pug expert hdi van, that lasted 7 years but I remapped it and did some other bits, was about 160bhp then head gasket went which was a total nightmare, garage fooked the head trying to get a seized injector out shit design tbh

Will never have a French car EVER AGAIN

Just glad I ended up with the 2.7 variant in the end

have a word with Billcar on this they offer a complete service if nissan is not going to cover it
i had a d22 before i bought the teranno found out it had a reconned engine in it with cheap bits there is a lot about billcar replaced bottom end new crank shaft timing chain and a load of other bts that i cant remember came to about 2k with labour did it in a couple of days even loaned me there loan car nothing special but got me back too and from doncaster would defo recomend them:clap
if i remember its a problem with the big end bolts stretching and coming loose
as said be aware of dodgy reconned engines
cheers Andy

Renault had nothing to do with the design/manufacture of theZD30 engine.
From another forum:
This comment comes up on occasion and a few years ago there was a reasonable debate on its authenticity. I heard there was even a press release relating to this, but the FACT is that not one bolt on a ZD30 is Renault. The FACT is that Renault adopted the ZD30 and a few smaller versions (ZD25) because they didn’t have a suitable diesel engine for their light truck and van market. The ZD30 Di was introduced to the Patrol long before it ever turned up in a Renault. Renault didn’t acquire an interest in Nissan until May 1999 and an agreement was made in November 2000 for Nissan to supply Renault with ZD engines.
Also another interesting fact is that the CRD was developed for the Renault supplied engines long before it came to Australia.

Nissan Motor and Nissan Diesel
to supply Renault with Diesel engine

Nissan Motor, Nissan Diesel and Renault announced a long-term agreement today for Nissan Motor and Nissan Diesel to supply diesel (ZD) engines to Renault and Renault VI beginning in the spring of 2003. Under the agreement, production of the ZD engine will double as Renault and Renault VI purchase approximately 30,000 engines a year. These come in addition to the approximately 30,000 engines currently supplied to Nissan Motor.

Just done a bit of reading, it's a right twat of a job as the gearbox needs to come out to get to sump bolts. Apparently the big end bolts are poor and pass their elastic limit when torqued at factory, causing snapping and rods through block, there's other problems as well.
