I have a 03 Navara bought second hand, I had no idea about the problem so it was great news to find out......! Looking for advice from people more in the know than myself, have read the Watchdog and Navara sites. I love the truck and don't want to get rid of it, it has done 67K and thinking of sending it to get the bearings changed before the worst happens. Anyone know is this effecting the majority of engines, a lot, a few?

Will be grateful of any advice, Andy.

Hi Andyc,

Are you reffering to the conrod failures and melting pistons on the D22?

If its any comfort my mate has got an 03-Navara with about 180k on the clock... tows everyday and gets worked hard on the farm... :thumbs

I'm sure some of the Navara owners will be along shortly to give you more info.

How about taking out an independent warrentry? :nenau

we had 6 navaras at work and all of them had conrods that came through the block:eek: resulting in new engines:augie i beleive all had les than 100k.

I was told that a Terrano engine fits the D22. Dont quote me but may be a good idea to look into.

hi andyc
mines got 107,000 now,i had the mods at 96,000 had the mods done to the engine at Bilcars in shrewsbury, new bearings, new bolts, new chains and guides, new clutch(while the engine was out) new oil pump and a mod on the seal between the oil pump and sump, this stops air getting in the oil. (£1600)
You need to check on nissan-navara net to see if your engine number is affected as only some are.
Change the oil in the L.S.D.'s, at the rear, this will helpwith its tendency to "kick out" when cornering with too much wellie.
Make sure it gets an oil change every 6,000 miles(or sooner) and get as much in as you can. The oil drains to the sump overnight.
A lot of owners report that its taking 5 to 10 seconds for the oil light to go out with the mod in mine it goes out straight away. When starting its been recommended to ues the Heat button (right lower side of steering wheel on dash.)
Hope this helps and it is only some affected. So enjoy your truck.

Give BillCar a ring in Shrewsbury. They are very well versed in the D22 engine problems and offer a repair and upgrade kit which will fix it for good. Not cheap mind.

Tim.
