How does it drive with it fitted? Any odd noises?

Not tried it yet, forgot to say. I need to shorten a bolt with the grinder but it got a bit late to be using it, gonna do that in the morning and then try and do a vid while turning.

Aren’t they supposed to make a ratcheting type sound when they’re running? I’ve been watching all the different installation videos in YouTube lol

Just when turning, and cos it's on the front and I have auto hubs it will only be when 4wd is engaged, the front diff doesn't turn when driving normally in rwd :thumb2

I have manual hubs so only engage them when needed so no noise, only engaged when on slippy ground, Rick

:D:D:D:D That's the steam cleaning ramp, just out of shot is a big generator and a steam clean/high pressure jet was machine, I give it PLENTY of use :lol:lol:lol

Haha, been wanting something similar for home. A set of those display ramps are tempting to do the clutch lol.

The front one is quite heavy. Doesn't need to come out to do the clutch though I don't think lol.

Depends if you are removing the box or the engine, if the engine then front diff has to go, Rick

I'll be pulling the box, don't fancy dropping the engine out if I can help it lol.

Best of luck, I have done it both ways and engine out is by far the easiest, Rick

big point is when putting it back together the danger of bending the center plate when aligning the box is very high as the box is very heavy and unbalanced, but up to you, I have done dozens but only ever pulled one box lesson learnt Rick

Engine is easier if you've access to a crane or engine lift, I don't have access to either unfortunately. Atleast dropping the box off I can work from the floor and use a transmission jack.

They are a heavy,unbalanced gearbox.
I strapped mine to the transmission jack so it couldn't slip off.
The hard bit it twisting the box slightly on removal so the bulge where the starter motor fits clears the transmission tunnel.
I layed some plywood boards down under the motor so everything was nice and smooth and flat:thumb2

I can believe it. Dropping the front diff out by hand wasn't something i'd like to do often lol. If things quieten down at work I can chuck it on a friends 2 poster so should make life a bit easier.

I've not been up to much, I changed oil and filter on Monday then changed oil again today :D

I've bought a link/ relay bar for the steering, are the old ones known to be difficult to remove is it worth buying a splitter/puller of some sort or will a couple of whacks with the thumb detector do the trick?
Thanks, Doug xxx20200514_170514.jpg

I wouldn't worry about it if you don't plan on re-using it, if I've ever had to remove a drag link before that needed to be re-used, I would remove the original castle nuts and fit a set that I keep in the tool box for this job, I wind them back onto the threads as far as they will go leaving a protrusion past the end thread that you can beat the crap out of with a lump hammer.

4-5 blows with a 4lb hammer usually frees them up :thumbs

If you've got a new one, just smash it out. Keep hold of the old one though!!!! We can drill them out and mod them if you ever get your big boy pants on and do the super strong steering job setup :naughty
