my Terrano camper conversion

Started trying to get the rear most piece of carpet out last night. Got seat 6/7 out of the way, but the seat belt bolts are a real b1tch to move - seriously worried I'll snap them off.

Soaked inside and out with Plusgas and I guess I should get a wire brush onto the outside of the bolts. Any other suggestions on getting the barstewards to move without shearing them off in the nuts?

Failing the wire brush and Plusgas working, I am not sure of the practicalities of this, as mine have all come out fine, but maybe do them back up tight, and then cut the exposed thread off with an angle grinder. That will not only reduce how much bolt you have to undo, but generate a lot of heat to hopefully help free up the remainder as well.

I'll try a bit of heat, if nowt else it should burn off any crud built up on them, if that don't work I could try cutting them back.


I guess it's because they're in the line of fire of add the crud from the rear tyres. The ones for the rearmost seats came out fine when I removed them.

I tend to have kids in the truck quite a lot so I want to be certain that the belts are safe, one of the reasons to lift the carpet in the first place is to weld up the holes that we all seem to be finding down there. Would rather not have to cut out and rebuild a seat belt mount too if I can help it.

assuming it's the s/b bolts through the side of the truck then the quick way would be just cut the ends off. If you want to keep them then a bit more labour is needed. Tighten them up then blow torch and wire brush the exposed threads. Then plenty of plus gas wd40 etc and start undoing again. When you get to the stiff bit, tighten again then untighten a bit further and repeat. A bit like 3 turns forward, 2 turns back.
If they still wont come out cut the barstewards :sly
If the floor ones wont come out , but will turn some , then you undo them all you can. Cut the bolt head off, then cut a slot in the top of the bolt shaft
Then use a good screwdriver and tighten the bolt right out the hole :thumbs

Definitely going to try the heat and clean tonight - last night they were reluctantly moving a bit while being persuaded with a two foot breaker bar, but I was wary of overdoing it and shearing the buggers off.

If they still don't want to go and the metal they're in is all definitely sound, I'll just use a stanley knife and cut a couple of slits in the carpet - damn site easier!

Biggest issue I have at the moment; the seven new seats are acting as conservatory furniture and we have a family of four staying at the same time. Not 100% sure where I'm going to put the existing seats and carpets while I prep the floor for a bit of welding action on Saturday. I will probably go on the basis that "forgiveness is easier than permission".

Well, I'm not 100% sure I ever get forgiveness, acceptance maybe, but the main thing is I get what I want done!

I've got the sound deadining in the roof and rear quarter panels now, have a look in the pics on my facebook:thumb2 still need to order some more and put it in the doors and other large spaces, then I'll. Stick the insulation on top of the sound deadining. Now when you knock on the roof and quarter panels thetes no tin sound, sounds like you're knocking on a brick wall :naughty

I've also got the dash back in place and I've installed 3 relays various electrics, ire put wiring up unto the roof and I'll need to get a compression gland?:nenau to put the wires through the roof without leaking

Done all the wiring in tobys roof today, just waiting for 2 roof lining air vents and a light to arive then after there fitted into the new roof lining, the roof lining will be fitted into Toby.

Were are the vent's going, and what are they for...

I have a flettner vent fitted to the roof of mine, it helps demist the screen and in the summer makes sure the cool air from the aircon goes right to the back of the car, so the ferrets do not over heat on long journeys.

Vents are going next to the grab rails in the rear, its mainly for circulation sinse of the insulation, the lights are going next to the grab rails in the front

I see, so not vented to outside for fresh air...
