been told not to trust bluetooth but dont really see how it can fail as the pda and reciver are only gonna be inches apart most of the time..

I'll second that we lost the blue tooth GPS connection on the car PC on the Mac this weekend so only had mapping not location on the PC. Fortunately Neil also had a PDA running MM too so used that for location plus I has Navan sat nav to help find turns etc. Off out shortly to try a different blue tooth dongle, also going to see if the other GPS transponder will connect using USB as well as charge that way.

Run Advent 9112 laptop,12" screen so can fit into dash cutout.Wired gps reciever.win vista and mm v5.

T can you just explain what gadget you've got; are you talking about a stand-alone GPS device (stuck to the windscreen/dash?) with bluetooth capability that your lappy can read? Is it detected OK by MM then?

Thats right - can't remember what it is precisely and not to hand but MM will interface with any GPS transponder via USB or Bluetooth etc.

I'll take some pics later and show the install of the screen in the dash over the std radio.

Dinky has his laptop strapped to a wooden shelf he's attached to te dash onm the passenger side where theres the leve bit.

Mmmm - I'm thinking of looking at some kind of ally bracket for carrying all this stuff that would bolt to the transmission tunnel maybe, to the drivers left, with some kind of equipment tray on top of it to carry things like a laptop, CB, PDA etc....wouldn't need to be too complicated...and obviously shouldn't mean the passenger seat can't be occupied...

I've got a spare lappy and have found bluetooth GPS devices for £25-£35 so once this blasted 10 Gb download finishes I'll be installing!

Actually theres another option for anyone who has one of these :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000PDV0CE?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&tag=3000777g-21
....I left the cable for mine in France but you can get one of these:
http://www.aboveandbeyond.co.uk/sho...html?utm_source=googleproducts&utm_medium=cpc

...then connect it to your laptop and mapping system and the eTrex acts as an NMEA GPS receiver just like the bluetooth device, but then you get the added bonus of a stand-alone GPS device for when you go walkies!

All depends on what you want from it...

Ah non-airbag version I assume, that explains the extra space...

sadly the airbag now makes that area like a hippos arse...can't put anything on it!

Fugawi v2.0 is about four years old but when bought in full, is a laptop application and contains entire UK 1:50,000 scale OS Landranger maps, plus ability to connect to GPS receiver and download to a PDA, e.g. iPaq.....haven't checked the latter out yet but if anyones interested PM me ;)
