jack one side of the back up and try and turn the wheel. Easy way to tell.

Timbo knows his stuff, so without an LSD you DON'T want LSD oil. Its sounds a bit whacky but ordinary diff oil is actually too slippery for an LSD, which needs a bit of friction for the clutch plates to operate.

But sounds worth checking that they have put the correct stuff in.....might be too thin?? Too many cheaper garages have a habit of sticking in whatever happens to be in the barrel in the corner...:doh

I've just double checked on this...

The Xtrail indeed uses an open diff, however there is a multiplate wet clutch pack in there too which brings in the 4wheel drive when the ECU commands it.

For that reason I would use EP90LS. (600ml)

The transfer case uses regular 75w-80 gear oil (500ml)

Thanks Timbo :clap so I need to change the oil thought something was up:doh

And the Manual gearbox uses regular engine oil ! ( 5w-30 ) Change interval - 40k.

Tim..

Thanks for the info tim:thumb2 just A bit confused about this engine oil for manual gearbox in the manual it saysAPI GL-4 visc SAE75W-85 . I have gallons of 5w-30 so would be much easier if was A load of fuchs(silkoline) and dont have the car for it anymore (xtrail is 10W-40)
