make sure both your hubs are disengaged! and clean the mini (banjo) filter, also does the steering pull? maybe brake sliders need cleaning and greasing?

how did you establish both hubs were fully disengaging?
mine are auto locking and would probebly destroy my auto gear box woulden,t they
check the downloads and threads on auto hubs and give them a good check! if everything else is ok, then it has to be worth a try!
no cos you wouldnt actually be in 4wd gears wise but you will have loads of drag with the front wheels still engaged to the drive shafts via the auto hubs.mine are auto locking and would probebly destroy my auto gear box woulden,t they

but id try the waste gate valve next . just get one from the breakers next time your passing few quid.... worth a punt id say
try your turbo wastegate and see if it is stuck as i have seen that happening - its the lever arm on top of the turbo linked to a bellows and opens at pressure maybe it is siezed open/closed . Worth a try!!
I towed my caravan for 12 miles in low 4wd.. no trouble with wind up.. just so SLOW!
In the middle of france I found that I couldnt get first or second gear in my T2. I engaged low 4 and set off using third and fourth which worked very well, when I was able I found somewhere to investigate the problem. Was I relieved to find that my mobile phone had slipped into the folds of the gear lever shroud and had prevented the lever from moving over to the left and prevented selection of the lower gears and not a faulty gearbox.....bri
