I read about the clearance issue on the aus forums with them fitting these to wd21 fronts

Iirc they had some shims made up

So been negative so far, but only because of the thrust washers, which is nothing to do with the Lokka, but it does need to be born in mind if yo go for one in that there could be problems sourcing these thrust washers, as for the Lokker itself, brilliant piece of simple engineering, but not for road going motors, without auto locking hubs, that is my opinion as this thing is basically locked all the time all be it on springs so it ratchets on corners unless the autohubs are open/free, Rick

Thrust washer thickness is clearly going to be an issue, provided there is an easy fix then it will be worth going for, Rick

What about machining the back of the spider ? So allowing room for your existing thrust washers :augie

No it is not the spider that is the issue, it is the distance between the two cam gears and this is governed only by the thrust washer thickness, Rick

I really did not think I could hold such a thin item in the chuck and take metal off it as well, but with nothing to loose gave it a go, bearing mind my lathe is far from new, any way it went surprisingly well took about 4 thou ct at a time with a 2 thou cut to finish, would have been a lot harder if the whole face had to be turned but as the mating surface in the diff carrier is smaller diameter I was able to leave a ridge all round which meant I did not have to get the cutting tool too near the chuck jaws

So got both washers down to around 25 thou

Now the crucial dimension a 3.5 mm drill with a 14 thou feeler mics up to 151 thou, nicely within the 145 to 165 tolerance, and after assembly the bench unlock test was good, now to fit it to the motor

Removed the bash plate and this lot fell out

Need this stub shaft and bearing housing as robbed it from the diff just built when I broke the shaft before,

The Lokka'd diff ready to go in but need th change the OS drive shaft first but not today, just happy the washer problem is overcome, will make enquiries tomorrow at Nissan and see if washers are available, Rick

Cracking job that. A true engineer.

That looks like a right arse clenching moment right there, with the tool machining so close to the chuck.

I have tried similar sorts of job in the past and results were job jumping out of chuck ending up bent and useless, so yes this was a result, just lucky I guess, Rick

well you could knock me down with a feather, heard back from local Nissan dealer today re availability of shims, there are six sizes made and all are available, albeit from Europe so several days delivery and the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
