just to clarify, the plip (press button thingy)may lose its code if battery out for very long, can be re programmed as per down load, chip key will not be affected, so stop worrying, Rick

Ahaha i do worry, that's my problem rick :lol

Can I keep you in my boot for emergencies? :lol

I'm sure you can program the keys to open all the doors with one press.

...Can I keep you in my boot for emergencies? :lol

For one car we had, I did screw a spare key under the car in a secret place, I would then only need a screw driver. Better than those magnetic key safes, which can fall off after a pot hole:doh

My Mav Mk I had central locking, but it wasn't remote, so I bought a sparkrite alarm, with optional remote locking module, I also purchased a door opening solenoid for the driver's door, so by activating the driver's door lock solenoid, that then triggered all other doors to lock. Same for unlocking.
This has worked fine for the life of the vehicle so far.
The Key fobs have seen better days, the plastic ring for the key ring broke, so I engineered in some stainless steel wire to act as a replacement, and that has lasted much longer than the original. The alarm and key fobs are nearly 19 years old. In that time, I still use the original keys, but last year I did buy a replacement key, as one of the originals started to get fracture cracks, and developed a slight twist after all the years of operation. This one is ready to snap, but still a good get you home key.

19 years is a pretty good run for a key :lol

I'm actually going to a shop tomorrow if they have the space, do a whilst you wait, one key first obviously, then programme it if needed, then repeat on other key :thumb2

Worst case if my programming goes tits up i can still manually open the car and drive away right? (as the chip will be the same still) :nenau

Well I was sharing two keys over that time..

Mind you, the key was designed for opening the car too, which I stopped doing, when I fitted remote opening. So maybe the keys were tougher then:nenau.

Also as mentioned before, the early Mavs and Terranos did have a passenger door lock too, the later ones don't. Maybe the fitting of remote locking encouraged that.

I am under the belief that Nissan have been looking for little ways to reduce the build costs as the years go on.

Maybe later vehicles had less under body protection
Getting rid of the auto hubs and worse, the three grease nipples on the front prop shaft was criminal.

So when they do a face lift on a model, does this really mean it's a cost cutting exercise, or is that me being cynical ? :augie

Right Saturday morning I am travveling to this key specialist.

They will replace the buttons the fob top and the batteries and programme for £25 per key :thumb2

Thats good enough for me.

09:00 @ their door :lol

I'm sure you can program the keys to open all the doors with one press.

On mine you press and hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds to switch between "convenience" and "anti-hijack" mode and same again to switch back again.

i would agree on the grease nips but fixed hubs are the future, i have a toad alarm, one button opens all. i think it was a security idea to open one door first, to stop people jumping in the car with you, good idea.

Never got any joy with this? Did I miss something?

Something i did spot though, we went out with our dog in the car, went to view a few houses with the windows open ajar with dog on back seats. The hazards were flashing constantly?

Sensor inside car? No alarm sounding?

If you leave the dog in the motor you need to switch the ultra sonic's off via the switch on the dash think you have to hold it down for 3 seconds, sounds as if the alarm horn has died:augie

I've a button on the dash that you push when you exit the car to disable the sensor. Never used it but I guess that's what you'd need to do if you're leaving someone or a dog in the car and you are locking it.

Cool that makes sense, I did click the button but did not hold it on for 3 seconds :thumb2

Will give it a try on mine as pressing the unlock twice to let my wife in is a pain as she has a habit of grabbing the door handle to early & resulting in all the doors relocking:doh

I suffer with the same symptoms :lol

I'll check in the manual tomorrow (it's in the truck & raining again right now) how long it needs to be held for as forgotten myself but sure it's 3 seconds

Reading the manual again it might be that it only works on the keys with the square head and the two square buttons built into the key :nenau

This is mine and works OK with either single or double click setting

Right just checked my manual Alex press & hold the ultrasonic button for 5 seconds then lock the door via the remote then your dog can jump about as much as it likes & the alarm won't go off:thumb2

That's the same key as i've got Ogri & did as you said & it has worked:thumbs wife still had to grab the handle to early whilst I was seeing if it had worked:doh
