Hi again to you all, yesterday I noticed I've got a little noise and am a little worried about it. I get the noise when I bring the clutch pedal just up to the biting point and does this forward and reverse and only seems to do it when you pull away in first but have noticed if you realise the clutch very slowly and gently it doesn't do it. I've put me head under the bonnet and got my old man to get it to make the noise and it's definitely coming from the back of the engine more towards the gearbox / clutch housing area. Any help would be fab cheers

What kind of noise? From what you've described it sounds like clutch to me based on the fact that the behavior changes based on the amount of pressure used on the pedal

It's hard to describe but I would say a dry rattle noise :doh

Hiya, does it make any noise when just sat ticking over, if so leave in neutral and operate clutch up and down, if noise changes then it may be clutch thrust bearing! From my experience anyway bud :thumb2

bearing in mind that the clutch thrust bearing is in constant contact with the pressure plate and so turning all the time, if it makes noise with more pressure then it looks like bearing is on its way out or a broken tyne on the pressure plate, gear box rattle will stop as soon as centre plate stops and will not be apparent once in gear, Rick

I'm a little confused now rick, I have a sort if rattling noise that stops when I push clutch in, will that be thrust bearing?

Sorry people I've just noticed I can hear it a little while I'm driving and is a little louder when under load

Based on a similar experience with my Transit van, I'd go for clutch thrust bearing.

+1............mind you it was on a L**d R***r........sorry:bow:nenau

just means the layshaft rattles, lots do it, one of my motors had a whine as well, did thousands of miles lots towing, never got any worse, never stripped a box yet so can only guess it is a thrust washer that wears, it will not be a bearing as the box would not last 100 miles with one making a noise, Rick

Hi chaps I'm feeling a bit worried about this noise now as I can hear it while driving and seems to be worse when under load like going up hill also the clutch has started to slip when I give it some beans in 3rd and forth gear. Any ideas chaps because at the moment I wish I never bought the dam thing and that's coming from someone who has always had renaults lol

clutch slip is not so good, first thing to do is pump the pedal a few times then dive under drivers side just to rear of front wheel, on the bell housing you will see the slave cylinder, rubber hose goes from it to the chassis, push the arm back to the slave (to the front of the car) it should move at least 10mm, if it does clutch needs replacing, if you cannot move it then the pedal/master cylinder adjustment is wrong and needs sorting ASAP, Rick

Hi rick thanks for the reply do you mean to check if I can push the hydraulic part back into the slave ?

I have rattle when ticking over goes when you push clutch in. Asked Rick and he said same layshaft rattle. So I'll keep driving if the couch slips u need a new one.

Now I'm confused. Com as mine is only making the noise on the biting point and when I'm driving. Fine on tick over and fine when the clutch pedal is pressed and depressed on tick over. Only when in gear :doh
