we are confusing two different issues here, clutch slip and noise, my earlier posts were to do with slip not noise, Rick

Now I'm confused. Com as mine is only making the noise on the biting point and when I'm driving. Fine on tick over and fine when the clutch pedal is pressed and depressed on tick over. Only when in gear :doh

but it would seem from your post that your clutch is breaking up so in this case noise and slip are linked, but have not had an answer to the question can you press the slave cyl back? Rick

Sorry rick yeah the slaves moves freely and I've got the slipping and noise

Thinking of doing the clutch myself is it a big job? And tips or tricks

I have done very many clutches and one gear box, gear box a real pain, clutches always removed the engine do one in a day, worst bit is you have drop the front diff, gear box you have to undo the torsion bars and drop the X member they fit to and the box is one hell of a heavy unbalanced beast, the risk of damaging the centre plate on refitting is high, engine out by comparison is easy with an engine lift, others may say different but they probably have access to a workshop with all the kit, Rick

Thankyou Rick just out of intrest how come the front diff has to be removed I didn't think that has anything to do with the engine? I've got a engine lift thank god

the sump drops down behind the diff so with it in place you cannot pull the engine far enough forward, when you are ready to start this come back to me and I will give you another tip if you have a mini disc cutter, Rick

Don't keep me hanging :naughty I'm doing it this weekend :thumb2

the job is made easier if you remove the front X member that the diff is mounted on, 4 bolts, problem is they are fed in from the rear and you can only get 2 out as the other 2 hit the torsion bar mount, trick is to remove the nuts, push the bolts back and cut the heads off, you will of course need 2 replacement bolts, pushed in from the front and you may need to cut them as they must not hit the torsion mount, Rick

Layshaft Rattle

Hi chaps I'm feeling a bit worried about this noise now as I can hear it while driving and seems to be worse when under load like going up hill also the clutch has started to slip when I give it some beans in 3rd and forth gear. Any ideas chaps because at the moment I wish I never bought the dam thing and that's coming from someone who has always had renaults lol

I saw rick yesterday he confirmed on tick over the lay shaft rattles on mine but goes on on pushing the clutch in he did tell me most do it so i would not worry , i am sure if you need a gearbox at sometime rick will find you one

dont worry if you have breakdown cover keep driving

If you read this rick I haven't done them checks as yet but today I've noticed that there's no noise when car is cold and when warm it even makes the noise when I turn off the engine lol
