Keeping warm.

I have one of those small camping gas heaters like the fishermen use with the small throw away gas can.
I light that up and sit it on the front seat make sure it is firmly in place ,then I switch the Terrano heater on, put the air to circulate in the Terrano and have the front windscreen setting on.
I make sure the can is warm before I put it in the heater especially when well below freezing as butane doesn't gas off very well when it's very cold.Within a few minutes the windscreen is defrosting and the car is getting warmer.
I have done this in my truck as well to great effect.



I have been doing this for years if it's gets very cold out.

LMAO, our county fire engines have so much kit on now the batteries cant keep everything on standby when theyre parked up engine off so they too plug in when on station.
Lets just say ,Im told, that before they got the quick/auto drive off release type, the electrical repair man was kept busy due to crew memory problems :lol

Anyway I doubt youll jave much luck on ebay at the mo Zippy, supply and demand.

The fire engines still have preheaters and onboard battery chargers. The engines and transmission is kept at about 50degC and the radio / sat nav etc etc kept powered up.

The diesel fired cab heaters cant be left on in the station so there are electric heaters in cab, as well as in the water tank and around the pump / lockers to keep them from freezing.

The electrical suzie pulls out automatically when they fire up.

9 or 14litres + 6 speed auto box needs ~15 mins+ to warm through when started at minus temps before they can be driven in any form.

I have no idea about preheaters etc etc but I do know the electrical systems on the vehicles are not self sustaining on standby on station.

The station I used to be located at (had a rather quirky office in the old tower ) suffered the indignity of several non starters at one stage when new vehicles were introduced :augie

A new charging system was introduced but had a unique feature, they had to be manually disconnected

That was a straight cough from an area commander when he was showing us some new kit :thumb2

i've found when pre-heating a tractor, puting a potato sack under the sump and setting light to it works very well! :thumb2
