juddering

hi everyone, for the last couple of days iv had a bad juddering through the steering wheel, comes and goes at different speeds and road surfaces. well i finaly had a look underneath and both rubber balljoints on the nearside of the steering cross rod have a LOT of play in them so im going to have to change this. has anyone any tips or things i need to know before i get stuck in? im not sure if it will come off on its own or if il need to replace the tie rods/ idler arm/ steering arm too. any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

you will probably have to change the steering relay rod as the ball joints are part of it. As for drop links I would just have a look but they are cheap and easy to do so id just go ahead and do it.

How did u test for play in the joints.

the relaqy rod is listed as a seperate item and it attatches via a balljoint, the linkage feels ok so fingers crossed itl go. and i held onto the long rod and shook it, you could see the movement in the bushes on the nearside but the offside felt ok.

just as an update my rod arrived but when i went to fit it i realised that to remove the old one im going to have to damage both tie rods, so iv now ordered two full kits so i know theyre good too. fingers crossed theyl be here soon as the juddering is getting realy bad now if anyone else has to do this job then the good people at milners offroad are by far the cheapest.

well its done, nice new centre rod and tierods, it took some doing to get the wheels looking straight, the manual says 287mm between centres so i made the tierods up before fitting them but it had its toes well out so i drew them in a bit at a time until it looked right, it steers true and brakes straight ahead but i think il still take it to a garage to check just to be sure.
