Steve, panic not, I think people are confusing PRODUCING and using

A producer MUST keep all records etc, but a user ? That's tosh I'm sure of it. You just need one ordinary derv receipt and any veg oil usage argument is shot to bits.

I still reckon for Joe blogs user, HMRC would have to prove you've used more than 2500 to apply any duty.

Anything NOT involving the tax man yes but when tax involved it's upto us to prove :( but as others have noted there is no reason an mot certificate can't be used as proof.

Did you know that you don't have to have the mileage put on the MOT :sly

no, i have run many vehicles over many years on veg. it is the user who is responsible, just as a tax man would expect.... google is free if you dont trust me....
auto hubs are gayer than side steps :D

's allright I'm on manuals :sly
I don't distrust you but CBA to google it either . I'll bow out quietly stage left :augie
The last thing I'll be thinking of is letting the tax man know where my money comes and goes to and from :lol

or put it this way, why would one ever keep more than 2500 litres worth of receipts

well, if you run a business everything you spend on said business is taxed at different levels. you buy bread for toast you can claim the tax back etc
if you are using veg oil to fuel company vehicles it is liable to tax on top, thats the way it is, always has been. the government(not us) make shitloads out of derv on the hgv side of things why would they not try to fleece us too?
the tax man has no friends......

Now hang on a minute! You get out of your truck and dig out your wheel to turn a primative switch to engage 4wd? Wtf???

Exactly, receipts are normally to prove you have actually spent the money, so you can claim it back, which means if you loose the receipt, you loose out financially (No receipt, no money).

Expecting you to keep receipts to prove you have used more than your oil allowance just would never work. Even if anyone was running 100% veg, and doing only 25MPG, they would need to be doing 14500 miles a year, which is unlikely in a 10 to 20 year old T2.

Even if someone was, they would just save every other Veg receipt and ask their mates to give them their Diesel receipts for the slim chance they might get caught by Customs and Excise.

As I used to claim mileage for work, I got into the habit of keeping a record in a Log book of all fuel in, along with my daily mileage, and service history. You couldn't make that up over night, so I am sure it would be more than sufficient evidence should I really need it.

as an ex long distance driver, 52k a year, i can tell you that every receipt was asked for,if no electric it was in writing if you were in the sticks.

I know :doh I've changed so many autos it makes no odds. Switch em on and leave 'em , simples :D

I've been claiming my veg and bio back for years but never over 2500 litres .
Claim ever bloody thing I can, otherwise I here people pay tax :nenau

last year i clocked a lot going to work and back, it only takes one tit to pull you over, police aint what they used to be... ie thinking!

But a dip doesn't cause an indepth tax evasion inquiry :nenau
I've been dipped round here a couple of times and all they were after was red .
They took their two samples (one for me one for them ) I poored mine back in the tank. Visual check Ok so I was on my way while they sent off the sample for full analysis . No news is good news.

The problem with all this is it's written for bio diesel. Not SVO.

It's a grey area. Technically by adding petrol to thin the svo I am producing bio diesel? Some may say yes some no.
