Something like Mahindairover :lol

We had a bloody good go at that last climb in the SJ though! To say we were struggling to control where the front axle went we were the only other vehicle to get four wheels on the slope!

are we talking about the same climb here ?

i was on about the one where dave didnt want to go down due to the steering as it was alot of right turns

but yes the climb the you both did near the sheep dip was great going thats where that landy broke something wasnt it

was a great show from you and dave considering it was his first time doing it

has he done anymore since then ?

No trucks out of action whilst we doctor it a little to stop that front axle wobble :lol

I thought you were talking about the last stage, but I know which you mean now. The one where Stu blew a diff

A fancy Land-Rover LSD at that too :eek:

That truck has sold and then re-sold again afterwards... wonder why

where it went up on the rock and down to the right over the main path up the hill and back down then up the fkin steep bit got to have been 70 degrees or something

it was a awesome machine that yellow one

from what i understand the diffs are u.s spec dana ones?
paid £275 on ebay, stripped all plastic crap off it, made period dash and stearing wheel mod, then thick coat of drab grean.
siezed gearbox up (no oil) father in law (ex army) hit it hard with a hammer, filled with oil, worked fine since!!
couldnt do that with a new one.
this picture was it final trip from the uk, broke the drop down window on the way, starpped down too hard, oh well, does its job, which is keeping flys out your teath.
the xtrail towing it, has had a bit of a hard life:naughty
on its way to auction now, i always used to buy ex lease cars thinking good, maybe just me??

anyway, all better than L/R had loads, hated all, series1 80", 84", 109", rangerover, freelander.
you cant say i didnt try.

one in uk is selston, near alfreton, nottingham derby boarder, one in france, the big wood, near bais, mayenne!!

I like that! :thumb2

And the fact it fits on a plant trailer :thumb2

My understanding is they are Dana axles & diffs... yeah the ones everyone are after for their one off build / Land-Rover upgrades and probably the strongest available in the world!
Thats why i'm a little dubious about Karls mates advice... i'm wondering if his truck is a very very early one with different gear? Or perhaps one of the many out there that have not had proper maintenence.

Did you know if you want to tow with a G.C you have to buy a special addative to put in your oils... 99% dont, thank fully both prior owners of mine did, and have only ever used genuine Jeep oils to start with ;)

no, we are way up north! love all the seasons, got lots of land to play in, and a big wood, kids love it, wife wont move for good until house finished, but i am doing all work myself, fosse, roof, etc.

back to cars, collecting the maverick, towed great, felt a bit heavy.

our freelander was only two years old, 3 year warranty from new, LR spent weeks trying to wheazle out of doing work, clutch cylider, inside gearbox, went, want £900 to replace clutch at same time, i offered to supply plate kit for free, they refused to fit.
injectors all shot, stearing and ride, well i thought it was dangerouse.
but when advertised on ebay, sold to a man in polland! very sort after car???:doh

Erm hate to say it but you might want to avoid VOSA with that load... I was thinking it about the plant trailer too as I'd imagine its plated to 3.5t. Only thinking of your licence mate sorry to pic!

On a plus note its a bloody good ad for the x-trail! Damn good motors those, I know a bloke with one that uses it for shooting on moorland :thumb2

What does he do, stick a spud up the exhaust? Wouldn't he be better off with a gun?:confused::lol

Karl... firstly can I ask why you are studying cherokee forums when you've said a number of times you cant and wouldnt buy one???

And also, thanks for worrying mate... but... my t-case is none of the ones they are talking about! The american engines and gearboxes are different to the european spec models. (apart from the 4.0 engine)
Mine has "quadra-trak" full time 4x4, those are all selectable the ones they are talking about and american spec vehicles. ;)

Hardy har :D

I got him some slightly bigger than standard BFG a/ts and it shows his mates Range-Rovers up on the soft moors :thumb2

i said i couldn't buy one not that i didnt want too lol;)

i like toys in the motor and these have lots :lol:lol

if i decide to sell a child or 2 i may have a cherry :naughty

ok i will come clean lol

since the maverick was damaged and me being stubborn i have tried to push the wife to drive so i can get a smaller motor or a second one just for playing

i have been looking at the running gear of the jeeps and of a few have thought about saving for a year and picking up and atlas 4 speed

Some of the new features of the 4 speed are:

* Two large tapered roller bearings to support the high thrust loads on the input gear & planetary shaft

* New 4 speed shift actuation design

* Much easier assembly configuration, which will speed up assembly and shipping times

* More gearing options

* All Atlas 4 Speeds will be equipped with a 300M output shaft

We are currently taking orders for the new 4 speeds. The 2.72:1 planetary can now be coupled to any of our 2 speed gear sets.

Option (1): 2.00:1 / 2.72:1 / 5.44:1.

Option (2): 2.72:1 / 3.0:1 / 8.16:1

Option (3): 2.72:1 / 3.8:1 / 10.38:1

Option (4): 2.72:1 / 4.3:1 / 11.70:1.

We do not recommend using the 5.0 gear sets due to the extreme low gear option.

New Atlas features to come that we are currently working on:

During the re-design of the Atlas 4 Speed we had requests for a flat tow option. Over the years, this has been requested several times. With that stated, we have decided to proceed with the development of a forced lubrication system for all versions of the Atlas cases. The system we are designing is a shaft operated pump that will feed the bearings of an Atlas that may not get adequate oil while flat towing. The lubrication system design will also allow us to incorporate an oil cooler option for some of the racing applications the Atlas is being used in. This new tailhousing with the lubricating option will be an upgrade for all new units and can be installed on older units with some case machining required.

You may notice that the 4 speed is a bit longer than the old design. The planetary housing is exactly 1.75” longer and this is to fit the new tapered roller bearings to handle larger engines and tires being used today.

and having some serious play time

now this was after speaking the gent that had the big cherry lol

was thinking about the ford ka 4x4 and i have been speaking to the bloke that built it an have got a few idea's

but i have also been looking into the aussie lockers :thumbs

weighed in total at 2200, which was limit of xtrail, 170bhp six speed.
it did look a bit on the edge, was spoken to by cop at diesel station, who did ask if within limit, i explained it was, and he seemed happy:naughty
allthough the recovery trailer was very low, more than weight, the hieght was more of an issue.

the new xtrail is brilliant, we have a fleet of them, all comming off now, probably to be replaced by navara's, due to tax.
only issue i had with mine was seats, mine was meant to be leather, but in reality it is rubber/plastic, if you want one, dont get the leatherish one!

Cor you were lucky! I'd have thought a lwb was over 2200 myself, never checked mines weight!
For the sake of the VOSA tho just check your trailers plate as I didnt know you cant tow an empty trailer rated higher than the tug. And i've been through my "E" licence training and test. Thought I knew the rules till a member on here pointed it out, checked and its true!

They are damn good motors tho, in fact i think i'd quite like one as a run about when we replace the mrs's Primera :thumb2

not sure what you mean about the hihgher than plate figure?
we tow for work all the time, and on tacho.
do you mean if total capacity of trailer is 3500 and car is 2200 then no tow?
not heard of that, where did you confirm info, intersted now:eek:

Yes mate i mean exactly that! I didnt know either until it was brought to my attention on here. My instructor ran me through everything except the fact my maverick was unable to tow the Brian james trailer we use even when empty... although my Nissan Primera can cos it dont have a tow rating, you just go off the kerb weight!

4x4s have a rated towing capacity. If the trailer is plated to a higher capacity then it cannot be towed by that vehicle. Its intent to go over limit basically :(

You have to get the trailer down-plated to match the tugs rating.

I cant find the post with the link to the info, but it came from one of the regular posters so hopefully they can post the link again for us
