Improving fuel economy

The best way I've found to improve the fuel economy on the terrano is to leave it at home and drive the wife's focus :lol

I get about 27mpg from 2.7 road tyred standard but well laden Terrano.
I also tow quite often but would expect that figure to drop considerably.

Quite some good advice there, anticipation saves a lot of fuel, braking uses loads, as you have to burn more fuel to get back up to speed. The quicker you try to return to the same speed, the more fuel you burn.
Avoid trying to do 90 mph, these are not grande tourers, they are very happy at 56-60 mph.
Roundabouts and traffic lights use a lot of fuel, the more stops, the more fuel used.

plan ahead and try to keep moving, even moving slowly up to a traffic queue, if you can just keep moving this will save fuel as you don't need to get a mass moving again.

I'm quite pleased with my '30 mpg'. Used to have a SWB Landcruiser (G Reg) and that was something like 18. Then had a Subaru Legacy Outback and that gave 30. So, when I found the Terrano did the same I was pretty chuffed.

Def wrong vehicle if fuel is a worry. I know these engines came from black cab but add a turbo and an extra ton and aerodynamics of a house will take its toll then add bigger tyres roof racks like I've done and you just add fuel when it needs it. Bit like my self if I'm thirsty I have a drink lol same goes for Terrano lol

Resurrecting an old thread, today I topped up the tank after brimming it about a week ago. 14 litres to bring it back up to spill level after 74 miles of very short (3 mile) journeys or town traffic = 24 mpg so not great but to be expected.

Did, oddly enough, another 74 miles later today on A-roads so topped up to spill again. This time 10 litres = 33mpg so well chuffed as made no attempt to drive economically.

All on pretty much straight WVO and 2EHN, maybe 5% petrol.
